I'm creating 600 audio programs for a client. They want to embed infoin the metadata including the show number and title. Is there any way to pull in info - say from a spreadsheet - to populate the metadata? Maybe in the batch process?

Not as it stands, no. Generally people do this in bulk using dedicated apps, of which there are not that many. Typically Injector — BaseHead, LLC which will do the whole job and populate files in bulk - but at a price... There are plenty that will let you operate on files manually, but if you want the bulk option, they've got you in a painful place, I'm afraid.

I downloaded MP3Tag and that seems to work fir what i need. The interface is incredibly confusing and the help file is probably fine if you just need to remember how something works, but terrible to try to figure it out from scratch. That said, it will let you use a CSV file to batch import tags for an entire directory of files. It has plenty of limitations, but it is working for what I need on this project.

I am using Audition CS6, but no metadata or tag information is showing.
I either open an m4a file or import it, but no information is showing in the Metadata window with BWF, ID3, RIFF CART or XMP selected.
Can I import the metadata via an XML file? This metadata is actually in the m4a file:
