Howdy. I'm using Audition to record some basic demos and am running into trouble.
The set up:
2015 iMac 27"
Zoom R16 interface (w/ most recent updated drivers)
Various cardiod and dynamic mics
Recording settings:
44k
32 bit float
1024 khz buffer
16 gig memory dedicated to AA
As soon as I start adding more than 4-5 tracks, things start going off the rails. Audible clicks and pops (sorry, not sure how best to describe this ... digital artifacts maybe?) are present, both while recording and during playback (when I listen to and examine the waveform, the artifacts are part of the recording. Ugh).
I have a few buses set up and am running a modest amount of effects on each bus (AA's stock tube compression, studio reverb and built-in channel eq). I've toggled the effects on and off, but that seems to have little bearing on the outcome. Ending up with some useless, noise-ridden recordings. Crazy making. Help?

Which version of Audition? Will Audition record/playback a single audio file in the Waveform view without the breakup? Have you tried connecting the Zoom to different USB ports on the Mac? check that all parts of the system are set up for the same chosen sample rate ie. Zoom 16, Mac Audio and Audition.

I haven't tried recording in waveform view but will give that a try.
Have you tried connecting the Zoom to different USB ports on the Mac?
Yes. Have tried different cables as well. Full system re-boot, zoom powered on an off etc. Same results.

I believe everything is set to 44k but will confirm next round/later today.
cheers

That is rather an old version of Audition that you are running. The latest is CC 2019 v.12. So it would be best to update to that before proceeding any further with trying to troubleshoot an old version where bugs may have been ironed out since. If you open Adobe's Creative Cloud desktop app it should tell you that you need to update and offer to install it for you.

Also, are you running the Zoom through a hub? That's never a good idea...
