I'm just starting out as a voice over artist and use a USB Mic & Laptop to record into Audtion CC....Occasionally the quality is a little wispy / distorted. Can anyone advise on a solution for this please? I have a home based studio.
Thanks
Tony

What sort of meter levels are you seeing on your audio recorded in Audition? Are you working on a PC or a Mac? The way USB mics are treated by the two different OS's may make a difference to how the audio from the mic gets routed via the audio drivers into Audition. Can you post a screen grab of Audition's Audio Hardware set up page so we can see how it is set up?

Hi Ry

I'm working on a HP Netbook Laptop.
Levels are around 18 which as you can see from what I've just recorded are ok

I notice looking at your Audition Audio Hardware set up that the Input and Output sample rates don't match. The USB mic is 44.1kHz and your on board sound is 48kHz. This won't help your audio quality because one of them will have to be sample rate converted by Windows which is not a good idea. Since it appears that the USB mic is set to 44.1kHz it would be best if you made sure that Windows Sound is also set up to be 44.1kHz as well as Audition's settings.

Thanks Ry
Is it easy enough to change the output sample rate to 44.1kHz ?

Right click on the Speaker icon down on the right in the Task bar. Click on Playback Devices. When that opens double click on the Conexant Audio which is probably selected as the Default device showing a green tick. Then click on Advanced and select '2 Channel 16 bit 44.1kHz sample rate CD quality' from the drop down menu in the box. Then click Apply at the bottom then OK and OK again and you should be all set.

Thanks for that Ry
Would it also be worth setting all at 4800?
Maybe that would improve the quality too.......

No, not really. But you may not be able to since it is quite likely that the mic is fixed at 44.1kHz like most USB mics.

Thanks for the advice RyHowever the problem I've got here is that my USB Mic settings allow 2 options - either 16 bit 44100 OR 16 bit 48000My playback device allows only 16 bit 48000 OR 24 bit 48000 Currently I can only change my USB mic to 48000 to match my output.Unless you can advise of a way of matching input and output to 16 bit 44100?
Sorry to have to ask so many questions
Regards
Tony

In that case if the mic will do 48kHz sample rate set everything to that. However there is no guarantee that this will cure your original problem but getting it correct will rule out that as a cause.
