Hey folks!
I can't for the life of me figure this one out. I recently switched my preamp and interface to the DBX286S and the Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen. Everything works fine in the free software Audacity, but I get no recording levels whatsoever in Audition. I have attached some photos to show you what my hardware settings are like. Ive been using audition since it was Cool Edit, and I'm stumped. It looks like it's all set up correctly.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
Dave.

In the Device Class window, select Focusrite USB ASIO. I don't thing you'll be able to use the internal speakers for playback though; ASIO only allows one interface to be used with an app. Also, read the manual carefully - especially the stuff about getting it out of mass storage mode.

Hey Steve! Thanks so much for the speedy reply, much appreciated.
When I clicked on Device Class Window, It just says ASIO, and not Focusrite USB ASIO. When I clicked on ASIO, it only gives me two options. Realtek ASIO and Steinberg ASIO. The Steinberg CI2 was my old interface. I don't see any options for Focusrite USB ASIO. Thoughts?

Did you install the Focusrite drivers?
Also, if you're not likely to be using the Steinberg drivers again you should be able to uninstall them (in order to prevent any possible conflict).

Hey emmrecs! Thanks for replying. I believe everything is up to date yes. I removed the Steinberg ASIO driver, and installed the Focusrite Solo software. Now when I open Audition, a Focusrite ASIO USB option shows up. But the mic option in the Sound settings of windows is gone. I have attached some images to show you where I'm at.... There is a thunderbolt option, but when I click on that, just to see what happens, I get error messages.

It's definitely not Thunderbolt, it's the USB option - the one you've selected. But, going back to what I said earlier, you may recall that I said that ASIO only allows you to use one device for an app. And because of the way it works, it bypasses most of the Windows operating system so that the app can talk directly to the sound device. So there's no way that any of the Windows settings will make any difference to anything, and the mic inputs you see there simply don't apply. So the default inputs 1 and 2 are the ones on the Focusrite.

I understand Steve, what would you suggest? I have the Fosurite USB selected, and nothing seems to be getting through. When I change the Device Class to ASIO, a Focusrite USB ASIO opetion appears. When I click on it however, the only option I have is Input 1 or 2. I click on 1, and still get nothing.

What mic are you actually using, and what is its connection type (XLR or USB)?

I'm using an Audio Technica 4050 mic. XLR. It's plugged into my DBX 286s, which is plugged into the focusrite solo 3rd gen, which is plugged into my comptuer.

Step one: Ignore the DBX and plug the mic straight into the left hand channel on the Focusrite, and make sure that the 48v phantom power is on. Does it work then?

Indeed it does work! Perfectly fine. It's weird because when it IS plugged into the DBX, it works fine in Audacity, but I can't figure this Audition thing out. I keep thinking it something simple, but I can't get it.

Plugging a preamp into an interface won't work on one bit of software, but not another. There has to be something else going on here...

Hey Steve! I agree with you. which is why I am frustrated. I just don't understand what is going on. I notcied when I switch from Mono to Stero, I get one bar on the right side. But when I switch to Mono, it's nothing. This just makes me more confused than anything else. I really appreciate your patience and help Steve.

Ok, I think I solved it. I just clicked on O2M, instead of O1M, and it seemed to work. Huh... weird. I really appreciate all your help Steve. Thank you.
