Adobe Audition won't start

I recorded and it sounded fine while recording but on playback there was a buzz on all the vocals.

This is the message I get, I have no idea what it means; 

Could not complete your request because Assertion in "E:\ Code\ 238949\ ProTools\ AAE\ Source\ AAX\ CFicAAXWidget.cpp", line 994.

Is this on a Mac or a PC? An error report with ProTools mentioned in it? Seems a bit strange...

I think that under the circumstances we'd need full disclosure on your rig before we'd get anywhere at all, and the Audition start/crash log.
