Audition has been crashing for months now, every time I enter the Mutlitrack player. Does anyone know why? Somehow I was able to create a file in the MTP just a few minutes ago, but then Audition crashed entirely. What is going on? It's been months. I have reached out to the company, but no one seems to have an answer. I'm using a fully updated Mac and the fully updated versio of Audition. Is anyone else expereincing this and if so, have you found a fix, or have you gotten information from Adobe?

Thanks everyone!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

When you say 'crashing', is that exactly what happens? If it is, then in the help menu there's a link to the log files. If you can find one that actually has the word crash anywhere in its title, then open it, and copy the text into a post in this thread. That way we might be able to figure out what's failing.

KiyanaM.W. I have the same problem.  It hasn't happened while working on previous podcasts and started randomly happening on this one about 3 weeks ago.  I have tried EVERYTHING - my Windows PC is completely updated and improved - it is not a PC system problem as it only happens with Adobe Audition. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Audition today which caused more problems on opening the file - everything on the 4 tracks was completely greyed out and no audio would play (the playhead was moving). I have just opened an OLD backup file and this is working, BUT Audition is still crashing every couple of edits.  Nothing complicated (in my opinion anyway) for a program with the capabilities AA has - I am trying to remove the unneccessary pauses, ums and ahs etc, so I'm just doing a Control K to cut, and edit to close the gap.  If I mute a track to hear playback, or move a file to another track, this program freezes (for -15 minutes).  Nothing else on my PC is frozen, everything else is normal.  Did you ever find a solution?  Adobe support is NON-EXISTENT, extremely disappointing for the money paid for a supposedly top of the range program.

You cannot possibly state with any justification that this is absolutely an Audition problem, for a load of reasons. At a very basic level, it could be for instance that Audition has exposed a problem with Windows. After some of the things I've seen Microsoft OS's get up to, that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Secondly, did you uninstall using the CC app? If you don't use this, then if there are installation issues, the chances are that they will still be there. You can find the app here. Thirdly, are you running Audition as an Administrator? Not doing this has caused all sorts of problems. Fourthly, have you checked whether there is an updated video driver available for your machine? Using outdated drivers has been known to cause all sorts of freezing problems with Audition, and often they won't manifest with other software at all.

You have to keep an open mind with all these problems - if you don't, then you can completely blind yourself to what might actually be happening, and not find the truth - or a cure - at all. I'm not for one moment suggesting that Audition hasn't got any problems of this nature (despite the fact that I've got it working absolutely fine on two different machines), just that you absolutely need to be dispassionate about it. There are tools that can help with that, the obvious one being Microsoft's Process Manager. The difficulty with that is that is that it's complex, and it's not necessarily the easiest thing to make sense of what it tells you. But ultimately it may be what you need to run.

SteveG_AudioMasters_ thank you for your suggestions.

I am TRYING to be dispassionate but it is completely unreasonable what Adobe Audition is doing. I am yet to receive a reply to my own post from 3 days ago, so no help has been offered directly to me from Adobe Support.  (Unless the reply is hidden somewhere in the maze of Adobe's help forums... it is incredibly difficult to find anything in Adobe community and help forums.)

This issue has been happening for over 3 weeks now, most of which I have been online/on phone with computer technicians every day trying to resolve.  The freezing problem ONLY HAPPENS WITH ADOBE AUDITION - nothing else on my Windows 11 PC is affected - which is why I stated it is an Adobe Audition problem only. I don't dispute there may be something hidden in the background which is undiscovered but I am disappointed the Adobe Support "experts" are not accepting this is an Adobe problem primarily.

I am not an IT expert - and I don't think I should need to be in order to use Adobe Software - so I am finding it difficult to follow the technical advice and to understand the IT language.

Here are the outcomes from working through your suggestions (on my own and with computer technicians over the phone with access to my pc):

1. Audition has exposed a problem with Windows - no suggestion provided as to how to comfirm this or find a solution.  What do I do about this? How can I check? Where can I look?

2. Creative Cloud App - used to unistall and reinstall (ALL adobe products, numerous times).

3. Already Running as Administrator as far as I can tell (no instructions provided by Adobe Community Expert) - I right click on the program icon, and select "Run This Program As An Administrator". Is there something I'm missing here?

4. Checked whether there is an updated video driver available for my machine; technician confirmed again that everything is up to date, no new versions available.

NONE of this has changed anything.  Audition is still freezing after every edit (Mute on/off is enough to freeze Audition for 5-15 minutes before it rights itself).

*NB: Many technicians have stated this is an Adobe problem, so it is not just me who thinks this.  Technicians have referred me back to Adobe Support for more answers.

**As an Adobe expert, please advise how others have been able to resolve this problem.  If you have found it to be a Microsoft OS issue for other users, please advise what I can do/look for to resolve this and I will pass on to the technicians again if I'm unable to understand the IT response.

I have created a file of the MEMORY DUMP when Audition is in it's frozen state.  Where can I send it so Adobe experts can search for the issue I'm having with Audition freezing every few seconds?

FYI for others with a similar problem:

When you perform a memory dump of Audition in it's frozen state, a file will be created which can be loaded into a "debugger" so experts can read it and hopefully find the cause of the issue.

To create a Memory Dump:

1. When Audition is in frozen state: CONTROL+ALT+DELETE

2. Open Taskbar;

3. Find Audition icon, open drop down menu

4. Select "Create Memory Dump"

5. Make a note of the file name and location so you can find it again to send to Adobe.

6. I'm yet to find out how to send the file and where to send it to.....

Information about where to post this has been provided in one of the other threads. Having multiple threads here simply makes it more confusing - please try to stick to one. And as for point 1, I did provide a suggestion - Microsoft's Process Manager. It's free, but it's also quite complicated to use. But until somebody (anybody...) can come up with a solid replication of this issue, that's all we've got. It may well be happening to more than one person, but there are a heck of a lot of other people who are having no difficulty with it - including me.

FWIW, if it's freezes, then the chances are that it is memory-related - possibly a failure to release it when it should. And this is somewhere where Process Manager can definitely help - if it's tracking the right things, that is - which of course is where it gets complicated...
