I was working on an individual audio file, altering the left/right balance in channel mixer, then Audition threw an error and now all the audio in the file is GONE! Erased. I can't undo, I tried copy/pasting the file in windows to create a new copy, but that one is blank too. My entire audio file - lost! This is extremely frustrating. Any way to get the file back?

If Audition opens a file and you do work to it, it would take rather more than a simple crash to lose it. The reason for this is that when Audition crashed, it wouldn't have saved the file - and that's important. The changes you make to a file are stored in a temporary file, and they remain there until the original is overwritten by them - the act of saving. The only thing that could potentially get erased would be the temp file - but that's unlikely; there's a recovery mechanism in place for when crashes happen in Waveform view; were you asked whether you wanted to recover?
Anyway, if none of that happened, then either your original file is intact, or there's a pretty nasty fault on your computer.
Also, if Audition crashed it would produce a crash log - can you post that? Information on how to find it is here:

Audition didn't crash to close, it threw an error and then the waveform was blank. I tried to undo, but undo was greyed out. I hopped over to Premier to see if the file (which was in a video I was editing in Premier) was still good, but when it switched to Premier the file reloaded itself and was blank there too. I then went to Windows Explorer in the folder, copy and pasted the file to duplicate it, but when both files were played they were blank. I then went back to Audition, tried to close and reload, no luck, blank file. There's no reason this should have occurred, it just threw an error, went blank and I had no undos or anything that would work.
