Audition won't start, may be due to temp file location being gone

I have Audition CS5.5 installed on this computer. When I try to open the program I get a message: the program has asked Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem. I understand that it stems from a choice made of where to save temporary files and that location being no longer available, but if I can't open the program there is no way to get in and choose another location!

Try holding down Alt+Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac) as you start Audition.  You'll see the option to start with default settings.
