can't view/edit waveform/multitrack

I'm attaching an image of the "window" in which I usually view the editing area (don't know what it's called) where the waveform usually appears.  It's turned into this thin bar. see attached image. All the other windows open with no problem, but I can't edit!  Fortunately, I still have Audition 2023 and it opens just fine, but I can't figure out what's going on. I've tried all kinds of workspace settings, but none will open the editing window. This is the 2024 version of Audition on a mac studio running OS 14.4.1pardon the weird desktop behind
