Dragging mp3's from my desktop to the mulitrackview fails, while I am able to move mp3's backwards and forwards and up in down within the multitrack streen. I can also open the mp3's to my edit screen and then move them to the multitrack mode. Not normal is it?

I just tried this with an MP3 here and it works fine, straight onto the Multitrack timeline.

Ditto here. Which version of Audition and what operating system are you using?

Windows 10 is very new and Audition 1.5 is very old. So dragging audio files into Audition from the desktop may very well not work with this combination. Why not just open them normally from within Audition?

I used to work with 1.5 and windows 10, no problems there.but after I re-installed 1.5 this problem arose. I can leave the opening of mp3's to Audition (not drag) , but then it's only one by one as the edit view, which is where the mp3's appear then, only allows one at a time.....

You can open multiple audio files at once by selecting them all in the file Open pane using either the Shift key to select a range of files or using the Control key to add them one at a time to the list as in any normal Windows file display.
