Exporting files multiple times from the same source

Hi! I'm a beginner with Audition and I have a doubt. I have imported a 55 minute wav files of a classical music recording. I want to export one by one each track cutting all the useless parts and doing some small changes. After I have exported a track, shall I import the wav file again to continue working on the other tracks? I'm afraid that exporting many times can cause a decrease in quality.

As long you are saving files in Audition's native format .wav then there shouldn't be any degradation in the audio quality however many times you reopen the audio file. Only if you export to compressed format's like .mp3 will opening and re-exporting cause loss of quality.

I don't want to re-work on the exported files. My concern was for the imported file on Audition. I have to export about six tracks from it and my question is: can I export multiple files from the original wav without re-importing it again on Audition for each track?

You can do the whole exercise in one go using markers - and more specifically, marker regions. Make the changes you want, and then divide your file into the separate sections. You do this by highlighting each section separately, and then hit F8 to get it into the markers list. If you just select only what you want, you can leave out the extraneous bits, so they're not a problem any more. In the marker list, you can highlight the name field (where it presently says 'Marker 01' etc - see below) and give it a meaningful title.

When you've finished organising this, you will have a list of separate marker ranges, one for each section. Highlight all of the markers and hit the 'export audio of selected range markers to separate files' icon:

Export markers.JPG

And then you'll get a window opening up asking you where to save the files to, and a few other things that are pretty much common sense to sort out:

Export range markers.JPG

Fill in the appropriate details, hit 'Export' and the whole job's done for you, using the marker names as file names. Easy and quick!

So you're basically telling me that I should export all at once, that second chances are not given? But if I realize that I've made a mistake, shall I re-open Audition and re-import the original wav or shall I continue working on the still open file?

It makes no difference whether you keep working on the originally opened file or close it and open it again. The original file is still intact and each of your selected regions that you export appear as newly saved separate files. Although often the advice is to work on a copy of the file in case you accidentally do something to it that you might not want. When you first open your audio file you can do a Save As on and add an extra suffix to it so 'filex.wav' it ends up named 'filexEdit.wav' for instance

It's not about 'second chances' or anything like that - it's about time. As ryclark says, the original file doesn't get touched this way - you are creating new files for each section of your 'master' that you select. Yes, you can keep going back to the original, select the next bit you want and do a 'copy to new', and then have to save it - but for any number of these, that takes ages! If you want to create any more than half a dozen new files, I'd batch-process them, every time. That's what the tools are there for...
