I used the multitrack option to record a show (Pressed R for record on the track and the red button at the bottom- when I went to edit the recording it was about 150 percent speed of the actual conversation... and had crackling and hisses....
Does anyone know what caused this and if it can be fixed? I am a beginner, but have recorded about 100 times and have never run into this problem,f

I would say that your session sample rate doesn't match the sample rate that you recorded at
eg session is 48k and the audio file is 44.1k
The crackling could be that your buffer size is way too low - try increasing it

But unmatched 44.1/48 sample rates wouldn't speed up that amount, 110% at the most. But certainly mismatched sample rate between audio hardware and Audition's session might cause the problem. What Operating System are you using and what audio interface are you using with Audition?

Thank you so very much for responding!
The microphone was a USB AUDIO CODEC for input
speakers USB AUDIO CODEC
The latency was 30 and i just upped to 200, and it did help the crackling in one of the audio segments.. i haven't tried the other.
The weird thing is that in the first part of the first file..its going VERY FAST, then it seems to settle down for about a minute.. then fast again..
The sample rate was 44100-
How do i match up the sample rates?
The bottom of the screen is 44100 .. but I don't know how to check the the rate I recorded at versus the sample session?
The PC is Windows 10 home

Thank you SO VERY MUCH. I especially appreciate your telling me exactly how to edit the buffer.
What would you recommend? I assume that "Latency" is the same as buffer? That same screen says Sample Rate, but how do i find the other measure that you say may be off?
Thank you again.

Latency is affected by buffersize
The fact that there are different speeds very fast then slower indicates that there may be an issue on that USB input

What is the USB microphone that you are using? Is it's internal sample rate also 44.1k?

It’s a SHURE microphone and they are plugged into an audio board. How do i check its internal sample rate?
Thank you.
Also is there anything i can do to correct the recording?

If someone could please walk me through the steps I can take to diagnose what the issue is (buffer size? sample v session rate.. it would be very helpful

What is the Shure microphone type and the 'audio board' that it is plugged into? Can't help much without knowing exactly what you have connected into your computer and Audition I'm afraid.
