New to AUDITION and am getting distortion and echo when playing back the file

Hi - I'm new to Audition and I had it all working well two days ago with my Presonus io24 interface and Heil PR 40 microphone. I recorded in Audition and it played back well. Now --- the recording seems to work well -- but when I play back the file, I get an echo-y distorted playback on that file. I've checked EDIT and PREFERENCES and everything seems to be chosen correctly re equipment. I'd appreciate any help. THANKS

Is this in Multitrack view or Waveform view?

Can you post a small section of a recording, please? I think we need to ascertain independently what your file sounds like. Having looked at the spec of your io24, I'm a little suspicious...

Thanks for your help with this. I've attached a short audio file that sounded fine through my headphones while recording - but echo-y and  distorted when  I played it back through Audition. THANKS.

Ah, that's a lot clearer. This sounds very much like a buffer error. Chances are that if you go to Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware that you will have either a Latency or I/O Buffer size setting that's too low. Which it is depends upon the Device Class you are using - Latency if it's MME and an I/O buffer if it's ASIO. It's effectively the same thing, though. You may have to experiment a bit to find a suitable setting, but the first thing to do is alter it and see what difference it makes.

If it makes no difference, there is one other option to look at, but you should investigate this possibility first.
