I've recently switched to Audition CC 2019 from version 3.0 (I know, a big jump!) and it's mostly very good, but I'm used to being able to mute sections of audio during playback in edit view. In CC the audio pauses or skips every time I hit mute (like it's taking a moment to process my selection). Any ideas why this might be? I can't believe that editing on the fly is not possible now when I was doing it easily 15 years ago!

This is when editing in the Waveform view (it has changed since AA3 where it was the Edit view)? What exactly are you doing to 'mute' the audio whilst the file is playing?

I have assigned a shortcut key to the mute function (which I believe is now called silence. Not generate silence, just silence the selection) So I highlight a section of the audio as its playing (a breath or mistake for example) and hit the shortcut key. This silences the selection, but causes the playback to pause. Only for a split second, but I'm used to playback continuing smoothly.

Right. I understand now. This may well be down to how Audition redraws the waveform if you change something now whilst it is playing. Since the complete cross platform re-write of the code the playback engine is completely different from that of AA 3. So it may not be able to cope with 'muting' on the fly. But I agree that it does hiccough when you do it in AA CC 2019 (and I suspect any modern version) as I have just tried.
However I am not sure how you managed it in AA3 because I can't do it at all in there when the file is playing, since the 'mute' option is greyed out. And a shortcut key doesn't work either. What was your workflow in AA3 for doing this?
