Using Audition on PC (Windows 10, fully updated) with generally high-performance components. Playback audio is ASIO with SteamSeries Arctis 7 headphones (or speaker plugged into the controller).
The playback in Audition has strong noise that is associated with the peaks both in timing and loudness (I think). Peaks are not too high. There is no noise during silences. The export is, however, perfectly fine. This is, shall we say, disconcerting during the edit process. I don't have the same problem with Premiere Pro, which plays back accurately on the Arctis 7 earphones (as does every other app I've used them on). I've attaced a short video of the playback in Audition, and the audio export of the same area on the clip.
Any ideas?
Cheers!
Ed

It's not on the recorded waveform in the session, so it must be something else in it. Can we see the whole thing, and not just that track, please?

Thanks, Steve!
I solved the problem. I'm not sure why it started, but I was having some sound problems and switched the device class to ASIO. I use ASIO all the time for Dorico output so I thought that would solve whatever problem I was having. I guess it created its own problem because as soon as I switched back to MME everything worked fine. Unfortunately I don't recall why I switched it in the first place; maybe I was having trouble getting any sound, and didn't check the mapping first. This is only my first use of Audition on my desktop; I record using my laptop and it never had a problem because I was using the internal audio and the laptop headphone jack. I've used Premiere Pro for a longer time on my desktop and never had any audio issues, which is why I was puzzled. Live and learn! 🙂
Again, thanks for your prompt response to my (sometimes self-inflicted) problems!
Cheers!
