Progressive meter and playhead lagging

When I open a project, everything is fine, but as the playhead progresses over a few seconds, it starts to jump by larger time increments, same for the level meters and anything involving a meter (compression, EQ, etc.).  It's so bad I can't actually see anything going by for editing purposes.

Playback audio is fine, no lagging or glitching.  It's just the display and metering.

Computer is wicked powerful--things were working just fine like yesterday.  However I have noticed this major task manager drain for Adobe CEF helper that is extreme.  When I try to kill it in TM nothing happens.

Causation or correlation?  Video card?  HELP!  And thank you!  JP

Have you checked to see if there's an updated video driver available?

Hey Steve!

Thank you so much for taking the time--appreciate it!  I looked under Device Manager, seems like everything is up to date, though I asked my IT people to come take a look.  Any other ideas?  THANK YOU

You can't rely on what it says in Device Manager. The only way to check for new drivers is to go to the manufacturer's website and check there. If it works at all, Device Manager thinks it's fine, when with W10 often it's been anything but. At one stage I was having to update Nvidia drivers every few weeks on the DAW upstairs.

It's funny, just after I got your message my IT guy told me to look at the manufacturer's website, lol.  I'm going to see what's up today and will let you know!  Thank you so much for your time!

Hey Steve!  Sorry I'm late on the turnaround.

IT came by, we downloaded a new driver from Dell--which then made Audition completely stop working (don't know if that was exactly the reason or not--wait for it, lol).  It was taking 10 minutes to launch the software, and once open it would take about 45 seconds to respond to moving the playhead.  It was awful.

I got on the virtual horn with Adobe, and a tech spent 3 hours operating my computer remotely--clean install of CC, code augmentation and editing--everything.  And it still didn't change the situation.  So he made another admin profile for me, and now it "works" on that one--but all of my session files and stems are on the old one.  Migrating the two profiles doesn't work for some reason.

To say I'm frustrated is selling it short.  The other thing is that I keep getting an error message--even on the new admin profile--something like "the procedure entry point idbsofohfkndklwj cannot be found."  But basically the whole situation is a huge drag.  I've been using Audition since it was Cool Edit, and the only time I've had problems was back in the late 2000s when Altiverb would crash it.

At least it still works great on my laptop, so I'm running my system off of that for the time being.  IT is likely not going to be able to help, they keep sending me links for Premier problems.  LOL.  Bless those guys.

Thoughts?  JP

I can sympathise - I have two admin logins on this laptop for a very similar reason (only it wasn't Audition causing it). Having sessions on a different profile shouldn't be an issue; you can allocate yourself the right to access them from the 'working' profile easily.

I don't know what causes this situation to emerge from a previously-working login. I'm sure that Microsoft does, but they aren't saying. So up with it we have to put, I'm afraid.

Me either--it's definitely not the computer itself, it must be something that's changed with the primary profile/image.  Another IT person is coming by to take a look; worst case I can do the virtual thing with Adobe again?
