my homework was confusing me quite a bit, and i was hoping someone here could help me. I added the dynamic processing to background music, but i cant figure out how to sidechain it to narration. side chain just isnt an option available for me. when looking at the picture that was provided in my homework, i noticed some differences. in the provided pictue, theres is the option to toggle the side track, but i dont have that option. please help me understand what i did wrong.
here is a picture of what im doing:
and heres a picture of the sample
here is the assignment instructions(im stuck on numbers 3-4):
"Open the Multitrack Session named Side-Chaining.sesx in Audtion.from Chapter 09
content. (Fig 1)
2. Apply a Dynamic Processing effect to the insert of the Background music track. (Fig2).
3. Enable the Side-chain button on the Dynamic Processing effect (Fig 3).
4. Switch to Send mode in the track editor and add side-chain send for the Narration
channel. The only option should be ‘Dynamic Processing on the Background music’
track (Fig 4)
5. You will need to adjust the settings on the Dynamic Processing effect that was inserted
on the Background Music track (Fig 5) to make the ducking smooth.
6. You will need to readjust the volume levels of all tracks and the send level from the
Narration track to prevent clipping and provide more headroom (Fig 6)
7. Could this technique also be used to ‘duck’ other instruments in a modern dance mix,
such as ducking music tracks whenever a kick drum plays?
8.
Perform mixdown export of the first 15 seconds. Save as mp3 and upload to canvas."
