Recording running but nothing records and a blue ring is shown around the record button

A couple of weeks ago I started having problems with Adobe Audition. As a teacher I create e-books for our students and I record every page in Adobe Audition so that students can listen to each page in our e-books.

This mean that in general I have to record about 40 sound clips averaging 3 minutes in length.

For me AU has been perfect since the effects creates a nice sound and I can export in AAC V2 and get a small file size without a robotic sound to the recording.

I've always use the multichannel setup since I can record in stereo and it is easy the edit that way. But a couple of weeks ago things started to get weird.

I could record a clip but when I clicked the record button to record a new file I would get a blue ring around the record button. That marker would move but sound were recorded. The only thing that helped was to restart AU. This gets kind of annoying when you have to make 40 clips and some have multiple takes.

I use a tc electronic desktop connect 6 firewire sound card. It works perfectly in Logic X but I started thinking it could be something wrong with the sound card. When Mac OS Sierra was released I hoped that it would fix the issue but no. This week I upgraded to AU 17 and at first everything worked perfectly. But an hour into the recording the blue ring appeared again and no sound was recorded.

So I went out and bought myself a new sound card, a Presonus AudioBox iTwo. Thought that a USB sound card might be what the doctor orded but no, still the same issue...

I tried recording just a single audio file in AU and that seems to work. But as soon as I start a multitrack recording things start to go south...

My computer is a Mac Mini 2012 with 16 gb RAM and a 250 gb SSD drive. It's running macOS Sierra with the latest updates and I'm using the latest version of Audition from creative cloud. That sound cards also have the latest drivers and firmware.

A blue ring around Record when it's functioning is normal - that's what it does!

If the transport appears to be moving, but there's no signal being recorded, then check the input assignment in the track info box on the LHS of the track. If you don't have a valid input there, then you will get the symptoms you describe. Also check the Hardware preferences to make sure that it's available there (although I think it will be, as the transport moves).

That's the basic Audition stuff. If it goes beyond that, we're probably in Mac territory and I'm not a Mac user...
