I tested a file by mastering (comp + normalize) and saved it incorrectly as my fine cut file. Unless I can reverse the master back to my fine cut file, I will have lost 4 hrs of yesterday's work as I over wrote the fine cut with the test master and then closed down!!!

I have all the parameters of the compression and the normalization.

Anyone had this happen?

Mike

Reversing compression is pretty much impossible under normal circumstances. Even when you control the circumstances (think Dolby NR) it only works if you have all the levels set exactly correctly - and that is rare, even for systems where it's a requirement. But undoing what a 'normal' compressor does simply doesn't work. Even if you could come up with the parameters, you'd likely spend more time trying to undo this than you would in doing a remix, I'm afraid.
