Ripping CDR's in Adobe Audition CS6

Hi all

I have been making music compilations in Audition CS6 recently and have been using 'Match Volume' to try and achieve consistent volume from song to song. In ITU-R BS.1770-2 Loudness I have LUFS set to -14.00, the Use Limiting box is ticked and Look-Ahead Time is set at 12.0ms and Release Time is set at 200.0ms. I have listened to all 20 songs on the compilation I ripped and the volume levels are reasonably consistent which I'm happy with but I have lost some top end. When I compare the ripped CDR to the 'original' source a certain amount of treble has disappeared particularly hi-hats and cymbals (I'm sure it's not my imagination).

Would somebody be kind enough to let me know if this set-up is acceptable or/and recommend a better procedure to carry on with. Thanks in advance.

It's sort-of psychological, but it's also real. This happens because you've used a limiter. By cutting the size of the transient peaks, you've made them proportionally quieter compared to the rest of the signal. And it's those transient peaks that contain most of the percieved high frequencies, so they don's sound relatively as loud any more - because they aren't!

So try again without the limiter. YMMV as a result...

Thanks Steve. I have taken the limiter off and the treble (high frequencies) are there thanks to you. Are there any other flaws you can see with my settings?
