i posted before about how id like to run some pre recorded audio through analog gear i have. now that ive figured out how to do it, i dont see certain options that i need to do it in audition. im using a presonus studiolive 24.4 mixer. what i need to do is route the output of the track with the audio on it from a spare output on my mixer. and send it back to a completely different track. however, my issue is, none of the outputs on my mixer actually show up in auditions output list. only the inputs like 1-24. i have 10 aux outputs on the mixer that i can use to send audio to my analog gear, but i cannot access them from audition....is there something im doing wrong?

Are you on a Mac or a PC? Where in Audition are you looking for the outputs to the Presonus mixer? They should be available in the drop down list when you click on the output setting on any Track in the Multitrack view.

Im using a pc. I am looking in the drop down list for the outputs. But in that list, it only shows my available input channels for my mixer. Ive attached a picture of the mixer. Each channel had an xlr moc input, and line in, and an insert. I cant use any of those as an output can i? I think i tried that before and it didnt work

No you can't use the Line jacks because, yes, they are input only. However you can use the Insert jacks because they have both an output and an input (Send and Return) for plugging in external hardware effects. See the Presonus manual page 10 section 3.1 Hook Up which shows how an Insert cable works. Still that doesn't help with sending outputs from Audition.
You still have to set up Outputs from within Audition to send signals from Audition's Track signals back into your mixer. To get effects onto already recorded tracks you have to send the track outputs from Audition back into Input channels on the mixer and then use the internal effects sends in the Presonus to send the audio out via one of the Auxes to your analogue effects and then back into a spare channel on the mixer. Alternatively you could use the Insert jacks on the mixer to send and return audio to your analogue effects units if you only want to send one track at a time.

How do i setup the outputs within audition? Audio channel mapping settings? Can u give me detailed instructions, or tell me where i can find them?

I did tell you already. Go to the Track header in the Multitrack view where it shows the two arrows for setting the track input and outputs. If you can tell us what analogue effect you want to apply to your recorded audio we may be able to better describe how to connect it up to your mixer and Audition.

Oh ok, yea i kno how to do that part. I simply want to run the audio through my WA-2A compressor and then once i get this working add my neve 5033. But ill start with the wa-2a. I assumed i was suppose to take the insert on the mixer, and run a TRS cable to the line in, or insert input on the wa-2a. And then another trs cable from the wa-2a line output, or insert send back to the line in, or insert on a free channel on the mixer...

You do the exact same as you would to add your effects hardware via the channel Insert jack (see manual for connections) into a channel when recording a mic plugged into the mixer. But instead of the Mic input to the channel you are using one of Audition's Track outputs to send it the already recorded audio. if you need more help on how to use the Presonus channel Insert points for adding effects that you ask in the Presonus forums.

Hmm, I must be doing some wrong. Im going to post pictures tonight. Lets say i put the prerecorded audio output on channel 3 of my mixer. I wld run the insert for channel 3 into the compressors insert put.m.and then run the insert out back into a different channel on the mixer, and then set the input on a free track in audition to the same channel thats going from the compressor back to the mixer...hit play, press record and that channel should then pickup the prerecorded audio as its being processed through the compressor corrdect?

ok so after reading more in the presonus forums..most people are saying I have to use the aux out and aux inputs on the mixer, and then route a channel to the auxs. so if im using channel 3 in audition as my output, then channel 3 has to be routed to the auxs. but its confusing because im not sure what channel I would use as the input to bring the signal back into the mixer and into audition. audition wouldn't allow me to use the same channel as an output and input would it? or does this change because the channel is being sent to auxs first

The confusion arises because there are two ways of processing effects. These depend on the type of effect. The Insert mode is mainly used for adding Series effects like EQ or Compression where all the input signal is processed and sent to the channel fader. The other mode is Parallel processing using the Aux Sends/Returns used for Reverb and Delay type effects where you need to mix a portion of the affected (Wet) sound back with the original dry sound.
The type of effects units that you are using would point to the first way using the channel Insert jacks, for which you will need TRS jack to two TR mono jack 'Y' splitter cables as shown in the mixer manual.
