Short, unwanted sound happens at beginning of playback

In latest, updated edition of Audition, which has worked fine for months, a short burst of audio happens in the short silence before playback starts in the edit window, even though the display shows silence there. Inserting silence in that entire blank space of about .04 seconds will not remove it, nor will using the manual level control. That sound appears on a burned CD of that file, as well, annoying and unusable. I'm suspicious that my recent feature upgrade to Windows 10 may be somehow responsible since it did some weird things such as uninstalling my video card driver and a couple other things.  I certainly don't want to roll back that entire update to return settings to a previous state. If it's not the Win 10 feature update, I have no clue what causes this or how to stop it. Until I correct this error, Audition is uselss to me. Would vastly appreciate any ideas, thanks a bunch.

You haven't said what your sound device is, but initially I'd be inclined to check to see if there's a driver update for it. Then, have a look at the buffer settings, and try altering them a small amount. If that alters the problem, we'll have a pretty good idea of where the difficulties lie...
