Transferring Audio Projects

I hope you don't mind me asking a non Adobe question.

In my day ( many years a go) as a production sound mixer, the main format for sharing projects between different people was the analogue 24 track tape. What is now the required format for project interchange now everything is digital?

The digital equivalent of 24 track tape - as far as Audition is concerned - is copies of all the audio files concerned in the session, and the session file. But as far as project sharing in general is concerned, then as far as I'm aware, the closest anybody's got to any sort of 'standard' is OMF - and that has massive shortcomings.
