I have Win10 with Audition CS5, and have been using this program for years. I am an audiobook narrator with a new project. When I started to record as usual, the program went ½ second and stopped, highlighting a short section of the screen after. Nothing was recorded. It does the same thing every time. I have to have a solution quickly, as I am on a deadline.

It's CS5 so I can't remember, but if you right-click on the record button, do you get any options there? Certainly on later versions you do...

In that case, without any other clues, we'd need to see the log file for a session where it occurs. These are text files, and you can copy and paste them into this thread. You can find information about how to locate them in this thread - Audition crashed. Now what? Also, have you tried recording in both Multitrack and Waveform views? This sounds like a disconnect problem, but without seeing what the hardware status of your installation is, it's not possible to tell.
