Bridge 2026 16.0.0 fails to launch - "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)."

Community Beginner ,
Nov 01, 2025 Nov 01, 2025

I installed Bridge 2026 to upgrade Bridge 2025 15.1.2 and it will not launch. I allowed the upgrader to copy settings and remove the old version. I have tried rebooting and running as admin with the same result.

After reinstalling Bridge 2025 I can run that but the keywords panel is completely empty! There is no "Bridge 2026" folder in AppData\Roaming\Adobe\. Where are the settings that were copied over?

I'm running Windows 10 on an old computer.

I just updated to Bridge v16.0.1. That does not fix this issue. Version 15.1.3 seems to be the last that works/opens.

I solved it by downgrading to version 15.1.12, confirmed that was working, then updated to version 15.1.3.5  confirmed that was working and then updated to version 16.0.1.18

I'm glad that worked for you. I tried the process you mentioned with no success.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

1. Could you please try performing a clean install of the new version of Bridge 16.0.1 without removing the older version?

2. After uninstallation, please confirm that the Bridge 2026 plist/registry entries are not present. If they are, kindly delete them from the following locations:

Mac:
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.bridge16.plist

Windows:
Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell\Bridge 16

If the issue still occurs after the clean install, please share a screen recording at sharewithbr@adobe.com and mention this thread.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bridge Team

Thanks Bridge Team,

I ran the process a couple times and the second one took. Bridge 2026 now opens.

I reinstalled 16, uninstalled, verified the registry entry was gone, reinstalled, and saw the same problem: Bridge 16.0.1 Application Error.png

Re "share a screen recording"

What do you want me to record exactly? Here's more information than you'll get in a screen recording:

  • When I click Adobe Bridge 2026 in the Start menu I see Adobe Bridge.exe pop up in the Task Manager Details tab, the error dialog pops up without showing an app window, and after I click OK the process disappears. Same result when launching as administrator. Same result if Bridge 2025 is running or not.
  • When I open Bridge v 16.0.1 in Creative Cloud Desktop I see the exe in Task Manager but it disappears after a second without displaying an app window or error dialog. It behaves like this if it's the first attempt launching Bridge after a reboot or later. I can successfully launch Bridge v 15.1.3 from Creative Cloud Desktop.
  • When I launch "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge 2026\Adobe Bridge.exe" from the Command Prompt it behaves the same way as launching from the Start menu and I see no other output in the command prompt window.
  • The Event Viewer shows these events:
    • Faulting application name: Adobe Bridge.exe, version: 16.0.1.18, time stamp: 0x6930a4b9

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
      User Action
      1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
      2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
      - It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
      - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
      3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.

I'm having the same issues with Bridge 2026. I cannot open Bridge 2026 now after installing some Windows Updates this morning on my Dell Tower Plus. I was able to use Bridge 2026 (v16.0.1) prior to the Windows updates. I have done the neccesary uninstall etc but no luck. I can however run Bridge 2025 without any issues.

Hey All,

Other folks here at my work were having the same issue with Bridge 2026 not starting. Our IT guy said they needed to install the latest versions of updated Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributables. I did those in the middle of the process I thought fixed things because my screen recording app said I needed to update them. Apparently that was the fix, not the unistall-reinstall process.

Here's the link from the site I used to download those updates. I did both 64bit and 32 bit as it stated:

https://obsproject.com/visual-studio-2022-runtimes

The official Microsoft website. Scroll down to the section "Latest supported redistributable version". Again, I believe you need both the x86 and x64 versions updated:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-suppor...

I am not an IT guy, so proceed at your own discression. However, our actual IT guy said this was the fix.

Installing these redistributables didn't fix it for me.

Before installing and rebooting I had x86 and x64 versions of these of in Settings>Apps & Features:

  •  Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable ... 14.44.35208

After I had these

  • Microsoft Visual C++ V14 Redistributable ... 14.50.35719

Did you try the Bridge reinstall process after the 'redistributables' install?

Same result uninstalling/reinstalling Bridge after redistributables.

FYI I can successfully install and run the current Photoshop 27.2 and Camera Raw 18.1.1.
