Adobe Bridge Metadata and Batch Renaming

I recently watched a Youtube channel on using metadata in Adobe Bridge.

After creating at preset for my metadata including name, copyright information, website etc.  I wanted to use some of the fields when batch renaming.

I noticed that you can create a template for batch renaming but you could not select a field from the metadata eg. Title and Description. I have to type the information manually for each set of images. It would be useful if the ‘batch rename’ template would allow you to use metadata fields to make up the file name.

Is there a way of doing this?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

In the Batch Rename template, you can't select text from other sources, you can only enter your own text.

Won't copying and pasting into the text field in your template be as fast as anything else if you are constantly wanting to use Title and Description in filenames?

I wasn't very clear was I?  - I meant that only the metadata fields offerred are selectable any other fields are not available.

This screenshot shows the small list of useable metadata available to Batch Rename:

One can use a script or a utility such as ExifTool to copy metadata from another field to an unused field that is available in Batch Rename, however, this is less than ideal. A custom renaming script or software such as ExifTool would be better for anything more taxing.

Oh, my…

Not being able to use any kind of “date” metadata is just bonkers.

Perhaps it's not intuitive, however, date and time renaming variables are broken out separately from metadata:

NOTE: There is currently a bug around the Milliseconds value, which currently requires a script or 3rd party software such as ExifTool to work around:

You can vote on this being fixed here (there are currently 3 open bug tickets) on millisecond related issues:

Woof… thanks. I didn’t remember that.

Just getting back on the train, after about a decade since last using Bridge.

This is something you might want to post as a Feature Request on adobebridge.uservoice.com. That will bring it to the attention of the team, and if others vote for it then it will move up the list of priorities for developement.
