I am in Bridge 2023. I want to open a file in Photoshop 2023. I double click the image and what happens? It opens in the Preview app of my iMac computer, as though I was using Apple's Finder!!
I right click on the image in Bridge and yes, in the top spot for an Open action I see Photoshop 2023. But it's not working. In the 'Open With' set of Application options I see that Preview is designated as the Default. Really? Bridge thinks that I want to use Apple's Preview every time I want to open a file?
One thing to add - I recently stopped using Preview as the Default app to look at PDFs with and am trying out Adobe Reader app. Could this change have caused Bridge to malfunction?
Anyway, I should not have to right click on a file inside Bridge in order to make a selection for it to open in Photoshop. Do I uninstall this version of Bridge or what?

OK, @carolinew32989154 This is the Mac doing this. How or why it got changed to this I do not know.
There are two places to fix this, one is the Finder, and the 2nd is file associations in Bridge. Start with the Finder one:
In the Finder, find ANY JPG image, click on it to make it selected, then press Command-i. A long thin window will open up on the left side of your screen. About mid-way down you'll see an option to "Open with:" and it will show Preview. Just to the right of that is a dropdown menu option. If you click on that, you'll see every application that can do anything with a JPG image. Select Photoshop 2023.
But you're not done yet. There is a button just below that that says Change All. If you click on that (and you should), that will make it so every jpg image will open up in PS 2023.
If that does not fix it, go into Bridge's Preferences and select File Associations. Find the JPG option and replace Preview with PS 2023. Note: if you're using the new Bridge, it should show "Finder Settings: …" which you may have just done above.
Also note, if you have to do this, you very well may have to do this also for PNG, GIF, and other image formats that you want to work in PS.
Let us know if that solves your problems

I do not have th e option to select phtoshop. It opens up File explorer and I have to hunt around for a non-existant folder. It is truly frustrating the hell out of me and I am trempted to just give up and admit that I can never use bridge as my default file explorer ever again.

Hi! I'm having the same issue. Jpegs from clients are now opening up in preview from Bridge, not Photoshop.
In the settings menu, it says to open up jpegs in Photoshop 2024 (the program I'm working in), but in stead it opens jpegs in Preview, which I'm not working in and isn't open.
This is a new issue. In the last week, I've updated photoshop and reset my permissions.
Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

Thank you very much for trying to help Gary - But it's not my day with Adobe today! I just wrote you a reply and then pressed Preview in order to check my text before posting, and I could not see any way of editing the text which needed a tweak, so I pressed 'Cancel' and goodness me, my draft was deleted by this Forum coding! I could not EDIT my post in this Forum! So, I am calling it quits for now and possibly tomorrow will have the energy to try again to respond to your suggestions, making sure NOT to use the Preview function in this Forum since it does not allow me to retain my text!

HI Caroline,
If it makes you feel any better, I've also encountered things like this with this forum — and it's not just Preview!
In fact, I've gotten in the habit of copying my text and dumping it into TextEdit if I know I have to go to other software to check something before I continue writing. Mind you, most of the time, it works just fine, but usually, when you're already frustrated or under time pressure, your content is lost.
I'll look for your comments sometime soon.

Hi Gary
Thank you so much for your kind reply...Well, I am glad to report that, through reading another post where the person responding suggested to update OS Monterey to latest version, my problem has been solved! I was on 12.03.something and now I am on 12.6. 2 and it has sorted out Bridge nicely! Clicking to open brings the file into Photoshop, even opening the App most kindly if needed, as it always used to do.
In the process of research I also managed to solve the problem of right-clicking on a file inside Bridge in order to get it to copy or move the file somewhere else (Copy To or Move To commands) which was nigh impossible. The pop-up window was constantly vanishing... Now I know how to use Control + mouse down on the image instead of right-clicking and that pop-up window is totally steady, ready and waiting for me to choose what needs to be done.
SO - I recommend that people who are using Monterey still and not yet in the mood to upgrade to Ventura check their version and if it's not the last one for that OS, to do the upgrade and maybe the File Association problem will be solved like for me.
My thanks again to Gary for caring enough to reply to me. (Where are the emojis?!) 🙂 Back to the old days then!

This may sound stupid BUT ..Thinking I had a cache problem I went looking at Preferences
So I CHECKED Compact Cache on Idle and went abot my business. Then went to click on "OPen" for one of my TIFFS and I got PREVIEW instead of PS .. did this with several files same thing.
So went back tp PREFERENCES and UNCHECK Compact Cache on Idle and lo it began working again
MacOS Monterey 12.6.1 and Bridge 13 xxx 583
Hope this helps

This is happening to me in Windows 11. I selected Photoshop to be my default program for PNG, but it opens Canva EVERY TIME. This is yet another mark on the list of Bridge issues I've been having since the crappy update

Hi @JoseGIHP it looks like your computer is set to open png files into Canva.
What you need to do is to click on any png file in the Finder and click on Command-i. A long window will open on the left side of your screen.
Please follow this two-step process.
First step, go down to where it says "Open with," and press on the double-headed arrow on the left side and then you'll see all of the applications that can deal with png files.
After you select the version of PS that you want to open the png files, then do the next step, and just below where it says "Open with," you see a button called "Change All…" click that. If you do not do this, than only that original file you selected as an example will open in PS. This second steps lets your computer know that you want ALL png files to be opened with PS.
I hope this helps, let me know

Interesting; the screenshot you showed earlier appeared to come from a Mac.
I'm sorry, but as you are on a PC, I cannot help you.

I am having this problem in Windows 11. I just upgraded and it seems to have wrecked everything. And I cannot even find theprogram file to change association manually. Bridge is now completely unusable because of this. Lightroom rreezes and crashes on my laptop which is why on this device I rolled back to photoshop 22.2. I am pretty sure this is the root of the problem but why give us the option to roll back if nothing else will work with it. I just don't get it.
Otherwise, Photoshop is working normally so how can it not be available to link with bridge. I am so sick of these relentless improvements which do nothing but make everything worse.

OK, I spoke to soon. What happened was, in windows explorer it started opening in photoshop. I changed that to windows pictures viewer. Now when I go to preferences, it still says open jpegs with Photoshop, but is back to opening them with Lighroom. Now I really have no idea what to do other than just write off Bridge as something I need to do without.
