Bridge edits RAW image and then goes to Photoshop as an XMP file and turns black

I am not real good in Photoshop anyway and now all of a sudden after I get through editing a RAW file in Bridge and try to open it, it goes to Photoshop as an XMP file and turns totally black. There is no picture at all when it opens in Photoshop. What am I doing wrong?
