Bridge Keywords Disappearing

Hi,

This is a general post regarding the disappearing of Keyword in Bridge. In my case, only some keywords disappeared but not all of them. I have no idea why this is happening. It happened to me also in previous versions (I'm now on 2020) and I learned how to recover the file from Time machin on my Mac. I read all over the community that this is happening to many users so I'm not the only one.

 

Today it happned again. But I don't know why. After I recovered the XML file I tried to redo all the steps I did before it disappear in order to reproduce the problem without sucsses. 

 

I just don't understand why it's happening but this is the 2nd time in the past two months that it happened and it's really bothering me. Of course there is the simple solution of getting the file from the backup, but I still think there is some kind of bug that should be investigate.

If by "keywords" you mean metadata, than YES!
I used Bridge to attempt a "batch rename", but before I even saved any new name, the creation date was wiped clean!!! 
Replaced by todays date. OMG these is my entire image bank from 2019 and the only reason I used Adobe Bridge was to organize them after creation DATE.... a date that was perfectly intact in each files metadata and now there is none!? 
@Shweta23 PLEASE FIX THIS BUG? PLEASE REPLY TO THIS?

The keywords are added to metadata. It has nothing to do with Batch rename or creation date. I think this is differnt problem. I never had changes in my photos creation date. I'm talking about adding keywords and the keywords list. I'm also not sure it's a bug...

I wish Adobe would fix this problem with the keywords. It is frustrating as hell. I was using Bridge yesterday and no problem. I open the same program today and AGAIN all of my keywords are missing! WTF?!!  I have started a Microsoft Excell Spreadsheet to keep all of my keywords but I should not have to keep typing them in every other week or every other day. I can't get any work done this way! Please FIX ASAP!  

 

And don't even get me started on what version.  I'm using Mac Catalina and can only use 2019 version of all the software and still Adobe hasn't FIXED this either!

 

Does anyone else use an alternative program instead of Adobe Bridge that they could recommend?

Hi Stephen,

I believe we look for a fix and not a workaround solution for a feature that is obviously bugged.

So I see this is a post from 2018, and I can see on the right sidee, under "Related Conversations" other posts regarding the same problem from prvious years.

 

As kewords are so important, I fail to understand why this problem exists for so many years... I think the common user should be able to trust the application and not serching for a workaround solution. Nevertheless, I believe it is basic to have a daily backup for one's computer but this is a different issue.

I tried to import my xml file and Bridge refused to "see" it.

You don't import the XML file, it must be placed in the appropriate folder.

 

Importing through the Bridge Keyword panel menu item is only for plain text files, not XML.

Keywords don't just disappear. First, you need to make keywords persistant in the Keywords panel, otherwise you'll only see keywords for active files. You should never have to replace the XML file.

All my keywords were and are persistant. On the time I wrote this post they disappeared. It happened a few times. It didn't happen for a long time now. I'm now on Bridge 2022.

Oh yes they do!!!!

My keywords (like 300 total) were always persistent in the keywords panel.
They used to all show, but only selected ones for a particular image where
marked with a checkbox.

So... if I don't import the xml file...where do I place it?
It seems to me to already be exactly where it is supposed to be, but
Bridge is not "seeing" them anymore.

Can you post a screenshot of your keywords panel?

 

Can you provide a download link to a copy of the xml file?


The location for the xml file is as indicated in my blogpost posted earlier in the thread.

Here is a screenshot of where my xml file is located. It seems to be in the exact place that you are suggesting. I have not moved it anywhere.  I did place a copy of it on my desktop when I thought that I could just import it from the keywords panel, but I have deleted that copy since that didn't work.

And here is a screenshoy of my keywords panel, but keep in mind that I have only re-typed in a handful of sub keywords because I don't have the time and am sick and tired of re-typing them in over and over and over again!

Ok something is majorly wrong here. Give us bigger screenshots showing the entire folder path to the Bridge folder, because a bunch of stuff is missing. Also post a bigger screenshot of the Keywords panel with it expanded. We can't help you without relevant information. Since keywords don't just disappear, AND the little bit of screenshot you have is not expected, something is wrong on your computer specifically.

Lumigraphics, I've been following this thread, and I have a thought. First, I agree with you that keywords do not "disappear" as they should be in the XMP. There's no way that Bridge can delete that information (unintentionally), but is it possible that there's something going on in Bridge that would cause it to not be able to read/see the keywords? I have no idea, my knowledge of keywords is limited, so I defer to you. But is such a thing even possible?

Thanks for responding...  First, I'm just now learning that it might be possible for me to run the more recent CC software, My computer OS is Catalina 10.15.7 and up until today I was under the impression that only 2019 programs would work on my computer. (Can anyone confirm this for me)?  Maybe if I update to current CC programs all of this might just be irrelevant? Maybe? lol.

 

Gary_sc I'm not using any "cleaner" app on my computer. I did have Avast free version for awhile, but I did not give them full access to my HD and so I just don't even use it. I don't use Time Machine either, although I do keep a backup of all of my files and work on an external drive.  However, I do think you might be on to something about Bridge not "seeing" that xml file. I noticed when I put a copy of it on my desktop and opened it to take a screenshot of it.. that it says open with illustrator at the top and I don't understand why it would say that at all!  (Could that just be Finder trying to work it out). 

 

I'm sharing that screen shot and I'm showing a screenshot of more of the path to get there. It's basically Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Adobe Bridge CC 2019>Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml

Not:

 

Macintosh HD/Users/loggedinusername/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Bridge CC 2019/Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml

 

Where you need to change the logged in username example placeholder to your user account.

 

library.pngexpand image

 

Note: The Mac OS may require one to hold down the Option key while accessing the Go menu in order for the user Library folder to be made visible. The Go to Folder command is also a viable alternative.

 

Once in the correct folder, you should see a lot more content, such as (version 2022):

I don't have any other users on my computer and don't have any files there. There is a folder labeled guest that only seems to show shortcuts to other folders like the desktop or music...and a folder labeled shared that does show an Adobe folder but the only things there are After Effects and Premiere Pro, none of my other Photoshop or Illustrator or Bridge or InDesign software.

Even a single user system has a user account. The folder is named after your user login:

 

If your account was named "My Name" then the folder would be "myname".

 

If you go to the Apple menu, what is shown as the last entry under "Log Out Username"?

Maybe my computer is just different from others. Adobe CC has always installed where it installs...  Anyway, last user login is my full name. I've whited it out but you can see for yourself and none of this is helping me btw. (I don't even use After Effects or Premier Pro either). Everything else is under Applications.

This is STILL not the correct library. You need the Library under YOUR USER NAME. Not the root Library.
