Expanded thumbnail problem

On my previous MacBook I couldenlarge a thumbnail so that it fitted the screen without loss; now on my MacBookPro with Big Sur (and, previously Catalina) I either get a cutoff version of the picture or it reverts to two side-by-side. There is no subtlety in the scaling. I attach two screengrabs. Most grateful for suggestions. Have I missed something in Preferences?

HI Default,

My first was that your new MBP has greater resolution than your older one. Bridge will display an image an image only as big as the image is or smaller. That is, if an image is 4000 pixels wide and your monitor is 5000 pixels wide, the image will only show up at 100% or smaller. It will not show up at 150%. Period.

However, then I noticed that your images are raw and saw the size so that is not the issue. The issue is what size thumbnail do you have set for the size of your thumbnails. You can set this for better and larger thumbnails but I'm not sure that you will really appreciate that.

Below is a screenshot of the settings that are recommended and I've marked out the ones that you think you want.

The problem with what you want is that this will really slow down the thumbnail generation. So the question is: do you want the large previews OR do you want fast generation of the previews?

Let me give you a third option: move your Panels around. Below is a screenshot of my Bridge layout. Note that I have the Preview in the middle and that's the ONLY Panel I have there. I have Content on the right and that's the ONLY Panel I have over there. All of the other panels I want are on the left hand side. This way I can see the thumbnails of the images and if i want to actually SEE the content of that image at a larger size, I click on it and then it will fill up in the Preview Panel. This is a varation of the Filmstrip Layout but with the option that I can have multiple columns of image thumbnails and thereby can see more of the images I want to review.

FWIW I find the default layout for Bridge really dumb. Why have a Preview that's slightly larger than a thumbnail. My approach lets you see the image.

Let us know if this is a viable approach for you.
