Depending on the model of the camera, which you didn't mention, Camera Raw may not have been updated yet to include that model. There is always a time lag when a new camera comes out and Adobe can add its new data to Camera Raw.

Just because it has the same file type, doesn't mean it's supported yet. Each camera has to be added to Camera Raw. Here's a list of supported cameras:

I got the RP too and have been downloading converters and plug ins with no luck.  I have been wondering if it was because each camera is different even though they have the same file type.  So I guess we just have to wait then, right?  No other options to open these files is there?

You can open the files with the Canon Software "Digital Photo Professional" and there you can convert them into TIFF, then it will be possible to import them into Lightroom.

That's what I do at the moment.

Hi All,

We are happy to announce Lightroom Classic 8.2.1 and Camera Raw 11.2.1. The support for Canon EOS RP raw files has been added in this release.

Other camera raw file support added in this release:

  • Panasonic LUMIX DC-FZ1000M2 (DC-FZ10002)
  • Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1
  • Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1R
  • Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS80 (DC-TZ95, DC-TZ96, DC-TZ97)
  • Sony A6400 (ILCE-6400)

Camera Raw 11.2.1 which, in addition to the new camera support listed above, includes a bug fix affecting the opening raw files stored on a NAS. This change should fix issues with Bridge and Lightroom Classic opening raw files using Edit in Photoshop.  Note: It is necessary to install the Camera Raw update to fix this issue. Installing Lightroom Classic 8.2.1 alone will not affect the issue.

You can install the updates on desktop applications via the Creative Cloud App. [CTRL/CMD]+[ALT/OPT]+[ R ] will refresh your app if the update doesn’t appear. See Update apps to the latest release of Adobe Creative Cloud

Let us know if this solves the issues you were facing while processing raw files from the Canon EOS RP.

Thanks,

Akash

Suggest you install Canon Digital Photo Proffesional (Canon DPP), it's free. Download your CR3 files to it and than copy and paste onto Adobe Bridge. Bit of a pain but it works, at least until PS get their gear into shape
