I started to add metadata tags in IPTC Core on some large tiff files with general success. However today I'm finding as I work with them, thumbnail images turn into generic white document icons. As if it's not bad enough, when this happens a lot of times I seem to be locked out from making changes to past tag entries and I believe I’m also getting locked out from adding new IPTC entries. Thanks in advance for any help.
Also right clicking on an image, Reveal in Finder does not work.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I only just noticed a Bridge error msg that says the (white icon) file is locked, but it's not... as I entered tags successfully a short while ago

Try this:
You can limit the file size for which Adobe Bridge creates thumbnails (displaying large files can slow performance). If Adobe Bridge can’t create thumbnails, it displays the icon associated with that particular file type. Adobe Bridge disregards this setting when displaying thumbnails for video files.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Win) or Adobe Bridge > Preferences (Mac), and click Thumbnails.
Enter a number in the Do Not Process Files Larger Than box.

Thanks Erik, Bridge would generate the thumbnail but once I started entering IPTC metadate it would trun white generic. It's intermittent too, after a restart the image thumbnail can come back, and can enter tag info. After quitting Bridge each time I've encountered the problem at least 3 times

If the files are large, try setting a suitably larger figure in the "do not process files larger than" box as outlined above. Does that make a difference?

I need to see a thumbnail, would this command interfere with that?

After doing the uninstall & Bridge update I mentioned earlier I'm at the point now where thumbnails go white and being locked out for entering IPTC tag data I'm forced to quit and re-launch Bridge and the problem goes away for a couple of minutes and I'm able to continue my work, but these interruptions are ridiculous. So whatever the problem is there's nothing permanent about it it's completely intermittent

Where are these files located? Are any cloud services involved?

the images that are acting up are 25meg TIFFs, yet a 35 meg one behaves itself

Have you tried shorter filenames?

It's possible that might help but why is that an issue?

Some of the filenames might be too long for the filesystem.

The Finder seem to accomodate the long (70 character) names
