Metadata and .psd files

Community Beginner ,

Im having problems with psd files that appear to 1. Lose visibility of metadata inside bridge, 2 are unable to have metadata updated and or added.

These are psd files that were originated as .NEF files (Nikon Raw) - only touched by Adobe applications ( I dont use Capture) - opened in ACR, saved in a different folder as .psd and subsequently edited.

The metadata is visible in photoshop when I go to files info, but it is not visible in bridge. I am trying to sort through images to tag them for a deadline, and I want to use images that I have already done the post production on, but I cannot either see or update the metadata in bridge!

I tried appending a metadata template - but that doesnt work either, the option is greyed out

any suggestions????

I am using CS3 and just updated to Bridge 2.1.0.100

Chris,

How large are the PSD files? If they are over 400MB, I think I know what's wrong.

Bridge has a file-size preference, and won't process files that are larger than your setting. You'll find this preference on the Thumbnails panel in the Bridge Preferences dialog. The default is 400MB--try bumping it up to a size larger than your largest PSD and then purge the cache for the folder containing those PSDs.

If that does not work, I'd like to have a copy of one of the PSDs that is not working for you.

Metadata and .psd files

Well at the moment I am working through the steps in the doc I was referred to earlier.

I got as far as installing the latest download 2.1.1.9 when I got your email.

I checked the file size 678Mb

So I went to preferences from the file menu and as soon as I select preferences Bridge just dissappears. I dont get a message asking me to send a crash report to Adobe

So installing 2.1.1.9 did not fix the blowup problem, but holding down option shift control on start up and purging everything did....

I set the file size on thumbnails to 800 Mb and I still get the problem.

I can see and edit the metadata in PS, from file info. In Bridge file info is greyed out (not the case on other files) the keywords panel does not show keywords that I know to be there - when I set view detail I can see the keywords, but they dont show in the keywords panel, and of course I cant check a box with out getting the message

Chris,
I don't know if you've solved your problem, but I've had the same happen on .psd's that are small. Say between 3 - 20MB. the only way around this i've found is to open the file in photoshop and do a "save as" then delete to original. Sometimes doing a "Duplicate" in bridge solves this. I can certainly say it is annoying. Haven't come across it in CS3 yet, but would happen all the time in CS2.

I did solve the problem thanks

You fix it by raising the size limit in preferences
