Upgrading from Bridge 2015 to 2017 or 2018- problem with keywords

Community Beginner ,

None of the keywords I assigned in 2015 were carried over into either 2017 or 2108. When I installed it, I did select "transfer over prefs from previous versions".

While I can export the keywords from 2015 and import them in 2018, the images I had tagged in 2015, did not retain that data in 2018.

Am I missing a setting?

Presuming that the metadata is correctly embedded in the file…

When Bridge browses an asset that contains a keyword that does not exist in the Bridge keywords panel, it will reside in “Other Keywords” and be displayed in italic text which indicates that the keyword is not “persistent”. Example:

non-persistent.png

However if you first import the old keywords into Bridge before browsing an asset that contains the resident keyword, it will no longer be in “Other Keywords” and it will be displayed in upright/roman text which denotes that the keyword is “persistent”. Example:

persistent.png

It is possible to right click on a “non persistent” keyword and make it “persistent”, however there is no need to do so if you have the keywords in place before they are viewed/added to the keywords panel.

P.S. More info (than you probably care to read) on the mechanics behind all of this here:

Stephen,

Thanks for your help. I actually was able to get this to work this morning. I had checked and the keywords I assigned in Bridge 2015 were in the metadata of each file. I started by deleting all the keywords in 2018 then importing them again, and yes, they did show up correctly!

Thanks again for your explanation.

Rita
