I'm running the lagest version of Bridge on a Mac.  Very often, the filenames will disappar when I change a directory.  I can bring them back by checking and un-checking "thumbnails only".  Is there any way to fix this?

Hi! Are you using the keyboard ? Could there be a shortcut for show/hide filenames?

No.  I'll just click on another folder and the names will disappear.

Yes, different to your case, I often get this even on Monterey 12.7.4 in different versions of Photoshop. Open or save windows, sometimes files appear after a long delay, but navigating away and back to the original directory is the fasted way to refresh.
