Why is bridge filtering so slowly compared to photomechanics?

Hi 🙂

I'm using bridge to filter my raws on my sd card in order to import just the starred/rated pictures from my sd card onto my computer. So I plug in the card and open the folder in those two programms and active the filter to sort the rated photos.

Photomechanics needs less than a second to filter out about 100 photos of round about 800. Adobe Bridge on the other hand needs about 10 seconds. And with more pictures on the card, Bridge needs even more time.

Can I speed up Adobe Bridge?

First, I cannot answer your question because I do not know. I do know that Bridge has a number of "slow" quirks. There are ways around some and not around others. 

But, I have to ask: to look at a low-quality, small screen and make decisions on what images are worth keeping and which are not has GOT to eat up a lot more than the nine seconds you're concerned about wasting when working in Bridge. 

Why not just bring all of your images over to your computer and, in Bridge or Photomechanics, add star and/or label ratings in those programs? If you're concerned about time, you are wasting some serious time rating images on your camera.

Yes those nine seconds are not sooo much, because its just about 800 photos, but very often I accumulate more than 3500-4000 photos and then it takes more and more time.

In fact I dont have any issues sorting out the pictures on the camera, its way quicker for me. And most of the time I can use spare time to filter my photos on location. So in reality the moment I can grab my computer to edit the photos I already had the possibility to sort them out, so it would take extra time for me to rate them on the computer. Especially to copy all of them in the first place. 

So yeah, it makes sense for me to filter them in order to send them to lightroom import dialogue.

Your system works for you. Very good. I do wish I could answer your question, but I do not know beyond what I said (Bridge has always had speed issues).
