Alternative FTP client app on mac

Contributor ,
Mar 19, 2013 Mar 19, 2013

Hi guys

Can you recommend on a good reliable FTP client for Mac? I would like the FTP client to upload files automatically upon saving the file which is a great feature of Espresso but unfortunately I find Espresso's FTP to be a pain to work with.

Thanks

I am unaware of any stand alone FTP clients that will do that.

Usually if it is included in a program such as Dreamweaver it can do that.

Transmit is not recommended by BC. Do you find Transmit causing issues?

"

Note:

There are some SFTP clients that are incompatible with the system. These SFTP clients, such as Expresso or Transmit FTP, delete and reupload a file instead of overwriting. This method leads to lost metadata from the our service. "

Coda uses the transmit engine. If a page is being edited by clients we don't touch them via FTP because they edit theme. All our magic is in the layouts modules and templates so the client can focus on their content an nothing eslde. So no not really 🙂

Thanks. I don't FTP pages or content as well, just Placeholders, modules and assets. Never had a problem with Espresso so I am imagine it's the same with Transmit.

Cheers

It is odd the ones they list though because, for me those are the ones that work the fastest with BC publishing and reverse publishing. IF you watched me do things in Coda and the same person in DW, while they are waiting for FTP to finish so they can carry on I am doing heaps of files, still working etc. You can have a good set up with Transmit and Expresso. The next fastest is cyberduck.

Thanks guys

It seems like Cyberduck is a good option. I like the fact the I can edit files directly on the server as I can not preview BC changes locally.

If you are going to edit right on the server, why not just do it right in BC?

Because the develop thing on BC is limiting and basic? And doing it in the editor in admin is crazy talk?

He is probably using something like Sublime text 2.

Coda2 though, again - dream to use, built in fast as hell FTP.. and many and much more

Editing directly in BC is only in emergency.

I use Espresso for editing and like it's ability to upload files once they are saved, but I don't like Espresso's FTP UI and it's unreliable synching with BC.
