Blog snippet/recent post on homepage

Hello,

I'm looking at the example on http://simplecart.directfusion.com.au/ - at the bottom of the page under Latest News, there is a few posts with title, date and first paragraph of a blog post.

How do you do that? The only success I've had was to list the entire blog post.
