How to show products in home page

Contributor ,
Jul 09, 2012 Jul 09, 2012

Hi

I can't seem to find a way to show catalogue products on the home page the same way they appear on the catalog page.

I can only see a list or product names but not the image.

see

http://stsstone.businesscatalyst.com/home

I want it to look like this:

http://stsstone.businesscatalyst.com/limestone

Thanks

Mica

You can insert products by tagging them and outputting the module based on those products
http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/kb/modules-quick-reference.html#id_26776

{module_productfeaturelist,tag}

{module_productfeaturelist,tag,rowLength,sortType,targetFrame,useBackupTemplate}

Parameters

  • tag being the product tag
  • rowLength; for example, 3
  • sortType can be alphabetical, price, date, expiry date, or weight
  • targetFrame; for example, _blank
  • useBackupTemplate can be true or false

{module_productlistdump,-1,rowLength,targetFrame,sortBy}

Displays the List of all Products as names that are links to those products

Parameters

  • leave this parameter as is
  • rowLength - limits the number of items per row when items are displayed as a list. Default is one item per row.
  • targetFrame - for example, _blank. Specify the frame you want the item to open in
  • sortBy - sorts the item in specified order
    • Alphabetical - sorts items alphabetically
    • Weight - sorts items by weight

{module_productresults}

{module_productresults,rowLength,targetFrame,resultsPerPage,sortType,hideEmptyMessage,useLi}

  • rowLength - limits the number of items per row when items are displayed as a list. Default is one item per row.
  • targetFrame - for example, _blank. Specify the frame you want the item to open in
  • resultsPerPage - specifies the number of results the search displays per page.
  • sortType - sortType can be alphabetical, price, date, or weight
  • hideEmptyMessage - specify True if you don't want the No Items Found message to display
  • UseLi - specify True to render the output in Li's instead of tables

Examples

{module_productlistdump,-1,1,_blank,Alphabetical} - this module displays the product list in the new window, alphabetically and all in one column

Thanks Liam

This means I have to use the 'tag' option in order to use the 'backup' layout. I tried to avoid using the tag option since it requires to go through all the products and tag them.

Thanks

Mica

Hi Liam,

Is there any way to tag multiple items at once?

If not can we do as Mica originally wanted and display a catalogue on the home page yet?

Thank you

Hi Dandy

I couldn't find a 'quick' way to be able to display a home catalogue. one thing you can do is to create you e-commerce site and then download the CVS file and modify that.

there are unfortunately many annoying parts with BC that require extra steps (such as workflow) or ,modifying a simple form which should be a 5 minutes work but can become a 2 hours testing nightmare.

With BC I found that it's better off taking the long way and just tagging one product at a time. It's designed that way and in most cases you won't have more then a bundle of products in the home page anyway.

Cheers

Micha

I guess tagging individually is the way to go. Thanks Micha and Liam

.. wish BC was a bit more automated than this and offered better bulk functions.

Has there been any update this function since September? I'm looking at hand-tagging over 200 products in the next day or so and would prefer not to.

Thanks Liam. Can this be forwarded to the design/prgramming team for consideration?

Why is there no option to include the product image included with the list of products?

Having to manually tag every single product (current and new) just to display the product's image along with the name/price/etc is an idiotic "workaround" and has dissuaded me from using BC for any personal project.

Maybe the module: {module_productlistdump catalogId="###" sortType="Alphabetical"} would be useful for a sitemap or product index... one thing I really want from my shop is for users to read through a seemingly endless list of product names (fyi, I'm being sarcastic).

Why can't the module template at least be edited?

Why not include a module to have a product grid?

Adobe BC is so far behind almost every E-Commerce platform I've used.

Similar issue here:

I am looking to use

{module_productlistdump,-1,rowLength,targetFrame,sortBy}

and have it be styled like the Small Product layout with out having to tag each product that gets created.

Am I looking at this the wrong way?

Should the solution just be to use

{module_productfeaturelist,tag}

and tag all the products individually?

Thank you
