I would like to create a multilingual website where my visitors will automatically be redirected to their languages pages based on their locale. (i.g. Dutch and English and French).
What actions are needed in Adobe BC to achieve this?
For the design of the site, I would like to start using Adobe Muse.
How should the document be designed (classified)?
What actions are needed in Adobe BC to achieve this?
Thanks for the effort. With kind regards. Carla@home

Hi,
have you ever worked with Muse before? If not, I would suggest learning the basics by following a few tutorials starting here: http://www.adobekb.com/
Muse is simply design, it does help you to push a site live, but once integrated with BC it requires extended knowledge about the tags and modules in BC: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/134/bc_1342.html and http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/134/bc_1345.html. Publishing with Muse: http://www.adobekb.com/launching_pt01.html
"Automatically be redirected to their languages pages based on their locale", if you mean by automatically that the site would "jump" to a specific domain once the location is detected, I assume this would require javascript on a landing page. Also this would require the set up of multiple domains or subdomains first to redirect the user to that domain.
This link here goes more in detail: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/521/bc_521.html
I would imagine that Muse could help you with the basic outline of the design of your site, but you would have to stop somewhere to integrate dynamic content in order for you to use the same templates with multi-language support.

Hi Denis, Sorry for not replying sooner. I actually managed to create a multilingual site. (See also my other post on http://forums.adobe.com/message/4873218#4873218 and the replies I've received)
I have created an English subfolder where the English site resides. If you want to reuse content, images or video's you have to "point to" the directories where these documents are stored.
First I made a duplicate of the Dutch Adobe Muse file and altered the text content to English. Then I exported the English site on my local hard drive.
Forms are another matter. If you use Adobe Business Catalyst (ABC) they are compiled when you publish you site within Adobe Muse. In my case the English version didn't work. I created a blank form online in ABC with the forms module. Copied the html-code and added with Adobe Dreamweaver CSS-styles. The form (all the html codes and the CSS codes) I copied as an html element in Adobe Muse.
In Adobe Dreamweaver or any HTML-editor I opened the html-pages by changing the codes that points to the directories images, assets, stylesheets and scripts.
I.e: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/site_global.css?259224851"/> had to be changed in <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../css/site_global.css?259224851"/> where the ../ "tells" that in the above directory /css the document can be found.
this works the same with images and other documents.
I.e: <img id="u8668_img" src="images/apartement.jpg" had to be changed in <img id="u8668_img" src="../images/apartement.jpg"
For a small site the above procedure works fine but if you have a large site I think it's better using Adobe Dreamweaver or any other html-editor.

The problem multiplies with adaptive designs. I've a website with 3 languages and 3 differents designs for everyone (desktop, tablet, and phone). I must to translate 9 websites.
Muse can not to work with parameters to condition the content of a html text box? with Edge Animate was very very very easy to create multilingual sites.

i was able to create a multilingual site after much sweat. adobe info on the same is quite vague but i was able to to go around it by creating first the "mother" language then creating additional page of each of pages in the prefered language. then *important: pages having the same content but in difrent language i created a common link for them, say a flag one in english and the other in spanish, then i linked the appropriate language to its appropriate flag.
i hope it helps, a great software indeed.
shared knowleage is great

Hi Rohsafi,
In the latest version of Adobe Muse it is possible to publish multiple sites in sub-folders.
I've created a bilingual site (Dutch/English) in Adobe Business Catalyst. The Dutch site resides in the root folder and the English site in the sub folder /en.
Please note that when you publish the site via Muse the already existing BC webforms are overwritten (this was or still is a minor bug (I haven't tested it if the bug was solved)). Make sure that you have submitted a webform from the front end and that would create a case so this will not be overwritten or deleted when you publish the site again via Muse.
So first publish the first muse site and then fill the form from the front end and then publish the other. Insert an absolute URL on the webform instead just selecting the page from the list of the pages when setting up the redirect in Muse. |
The above answer was a reply from Adobe Support.

PS: www.dogscolor.com (here I have used the widget from musethemes). Works well, one minus. I could get to show the flags and not the text yet. 😞

So we can find the better solution 🙂

Hi Diego,
A very impressive website do you have.
Could you explain how you made it?
How did you build the site-map?
Yours sincerely,

Hi Jory,
I made by now two multilingual pages.
boxerkiro.com
dogscolor.com
The first one is made in several pages; depending the languages and linking them all together.
And the second one is by using the google translator widget.
Both work well, everything depends on the total pages you have, and the control you want to have in the text. Google T is good but not perfect.
Let me know if I could assist you in something else.
Cheers,
Diego

I tried Google Translate on my site. It works great but something is messed up with how it looks on the page. I tried the Muse forums to get help but was never able to fix. Still looking for a solution.

Hi spsachosJLL,
I've looked at your site in English. And everything looked good. No, messed up text or what so ever.
I've an other question. How did you make the scrolling effects with the large background images? Did you use Muse for it or did you add your own CSS3 styles. When you scroll down the site, everything scrolls smoothly. Nice job:)
Can you give me some hints and tips?
Thanks.

Hi Carla,
I have this as a potential issue for a site I've just created. The site is VERY simple (1 page with scrolling, possible 2-3 at the most) I was hoping to do the following:
Duplicate the English pages (English being the primary language and Client's location) Duplicate these page(s) in different languages.
Publish via BC
Then when adding multiple domains, I noticed when using the BC dashboard you can select alternate HOME/START pages for different domains, and also select different regions.
Seemed to work when I added my redundant domains (we've all bought domains we have never used) to my own website, and just gave them different Start/Home pages
Anyone see any reason why this option wouldn't work? It's simple fix for me, as the site is so simple.
