As you are probably aware, our North American data center has recently experienced outages, causing downtime and/or performance degradation. The impacted data center was Virginia, and we experienced three service disruptions due to DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, on:
Friday 24 January from 8:30pm to 8:52pm GMT
Monday 27 January from 3:46pm to 4:00pm GMT
Tuesday 28 January from 10.00pm to 11.00pm GMT
We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you, and we would like to let you know what measures we're taking to prevent this in the future.
The incident has been an extremely aggressive threat on Business Catalyst, and our operations team, together with partners at Amazon, have been working around the clock to reduce the impact on the affected sites.
We understand that this extended incident may have caused considerable strain with your customers, and want to assure you that the severity and scale of the incident was one of the highest levels in the history of Business Catalyst. Right now we are working to improve service resilience to this kind of attack, and we will be conducting a full investigation to put in place further measures to mitigate such attacks.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have caused you, and assure you of our team’s full commitment to ensure our service is operating in normal parameters.
The BC Team
