camera raw 12.3 unworkable

Community Beginner ,

Camera Raw 12.3 is a terrible interface!  Very poor user experience.  I tried to revert back to older version via PS Customer Comunity and Adobe instructions and neither 11.4.1 nor 10.5 work.  I get a strange black screen with only part of the controls showing.  I just want to go back to 10.5 and have simplicity and convenient toolbar!  Help!

Rolled back Bridge to 10.0.4 and ACR to 12.2.1
If you just roll back ACR the new Bridge does not like it

You can revert to the previous version of Camera Raw 12.2.1: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html#12_x

Bridge you can downgrade via CC Desktop

The old UI is gone and not coming back.

I use a fisheye len and for the life of me, I cannot figure out where the lens correction has gone. I have tried downgrading and it doesn't fix anything. And depending upon where I look, it says I have three different versions of installed.

I believe you are looking for a drop down ("disclosure button" or something) which is a triangle next to "use profile corrections" in the "optics" tab.

I used an uninstaller to remove 12.3, and then reinstalled 12.1.  As for the old UI never coming back, as long as my current cameras and the 'old and lousy' UI works, Adobe can keep their dubious 'new and improved' version, which looks to be a straight up rip off of a different Raw processing program, but clunkier.

And every time you update Photoshop, it will install a newer versions of ACR so you better archive that 12.1 installer as you'll be using it forever until the updated version(s) of Photoshop refuse to use it.

Preaching to the choir here.  I *always* archive previous version. Has saved my bacon with other software on more than one occasion.

So amazing is this screw up of the UI that it's caused me to learn all about downgrading versions for the first time since becoming a user years and years (and thoushands of dollars) ago. I know I'm preaching to the choir here and that Adobe does not care at all about my opinion, but it's amazing that the poduct managers thought this version was fit for release. I gave the new version a good, honest go (hence my delay in whining about the new version), but it's just too awful. It's so bad, it's embarrassing.

Being in the software industry myself, I can guess with relative certainty that the Camera Raw product team had a formal goal of releasing this new version by X date, and they rushed it out to meet the goal and not look bad. It's just bad for the company as a whole that they sacrificed usability in order to save face.

Anyway, thanks for the instructions on downgrading, I'm happy and productive again.

I got an R6 so I had to update and I regret it immensely. There's no grid on the crop tool and it's completely reversed, brushes default whenever you change to a new image, and the new editing tabs system is ridiculous. My workflow is now twice or three times slower.

I accidentally upgraded to the latest Bridge version, and it updated the Camera Raw as well. Just FYI, you can now install and use Camera Raw 12.2.1 without needing to downgrade Bridge as well... So a mildly confused thank you, Adobe...

I can't confirm that in any way. The Nikon RAWs can be edited ingeniously and without errors.
It can be because I'm working with a newer build (see attachment) or it could also be because of the RAW file. If it doesn't work at all, convert to DNG and edit it.
