P: Scalable Camera Raw interface

I am using an HP 840 laptop with 16mg RAM and 256 SSD drive. I am running Photoshop CC and camera raw  as part of the Photography CC package so I am assuming it is the latest versions.

Photoshop and Lightroom all work well but when I try to view anything in Camera Raw the Screen is so large it doesn't fit on the screen. Consequently many of the buttons are off screen. I have tried setting then UI to 100% but it doesn't make any difference.

Any ideas?

I don't use a laptop. Do you have the resolution set to its native resolution?

The thread I see relates to Dreamweaver not Camera Raw. As camera Raw is now a standalone programme I can’t see a way to change the compatibility.

Hi michaelh13913725,

Camera raw filter adapts Photoshop's UI so making changes as mentioned in the article will help us determine is its related to Windows DPI scaling or not.

Michael,

Did you restart Photoshop after you changed the scaling preference in Photoshop to 100%? The changes don't take effect until you restart.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help > System Info... and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Depending on the flavor/version of Windows you're running the scaling options behave differently.

Hi Michael,

Camera Raw has always been a "standalone" application. Think of it as a middle-person between opening a raw image (or a jpeg or tif image that has had ACR alterations) and Photoshop.

I'm on a Mac and am not completely sure that what I'm about to say will work on a PC (but I think it should), can you mouse-down on any corner and drag toward the center of ACR? The ACR window is resizable and you can make it larger or smaller in either the X or Y axis. Size it to you needs.

Does that work or am I missing something?

Thanks for the suggestion but it wont scale down any more. Still too big for the screen.

Wait, I do not understand that. Look at my screenshot below. Here I've got ACR down to < 1050 pixels by 750 pixels.

Are you saying your screen resolution is smaller than that?

Just out of curiosity, what is your screen resolution set to? By any chance do you have it set to something like 720 x 480? If so, go into your preferences and increase your screen's resolution.

Let us know and good luck!

Same problem. I've re-set preferences and re-started photoshop CC. Screen resolution is 1920x1080. The photoshop window is fine with no modifications. It's only the ACR window that's distorted and can't be resized.  Brand new Dell Inspiron 13 running windows 10.

OK. Long story short. I tried every suggestion with no luck. My laptop resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 and everything except ACR works fine. I was unable to scale the ACR window and much of the work space  was off screen.

I desperation I went into Display Settings and noticed it was set to 150% by default. I set it to 100% and everything was so small I couldn't read it. But it did allow me to scale the ACR window which I did. I scaled it as small as I could. Then reset the graphics display back to default and the problem returned. In the end I set the graphics display to 145% and, as I had scaled the ACR window down, it allowed me to scale it to fit the window.

So far it seems to be working OK now.

Sorry that was supposed to e the short version.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

145% is the sweet spot for me too, late 2016 Spectre x360. I strongly agree that this is a flaw in Adobe software and we shouldn't need to perform these workarounds. I have PS Elements 2018 running on the same laptop and the ACR window scales correctly.

Do you have a step by step how you did this?  I know how to change it to 100% on the display but I am not sure wha the ACR is?

I'm sure you've probably fixed this by now, but wanted to share my experience as I just tried this today and it works!  ACR stands for Adobe Camera Raw, I assume, meaning the Camera Raw Filter under the Filter tab in Photoshop CC (rather than an actual Camera Raw file).

Once I changed my Windows display settings to the recommended 125% and restarted PS, the Camera Raw Filter was fine and fit perfectly again.  Hope this was a help to you!

Same problem here--the fix fixes it, but the end result is too small to be much use.  (type on screen measures only 8 points, which is the same as the type on the back label of an aspirin bottle--notoriously illegible.)  And current version of Windows does not have a free-form user-input box, only four options from 100 to 175)  I am no longer a 'spring chicken' so I find it nearly impossible to read the text at that size--even my prescription reading glasses, my nose is about two inches from the screen.  I do hope Adobe will address this issue, and soon, as our population (including their users) is gradually aging.

Also hope Adobe will begin using q.c. testing personnel "of a certain age", i.e. over 55. 🙂 Some of these issues could be caught and corrected before a release comes out.

For others with the same problem (i.e. Camera Raw updated interface too big
for window):

With help from my local computer repairman, I found that my personal
viewing setting of 150% was too big. Once I returned to the recommended
setting of 125%, all is well with ACR.

"Ordinary" viewing is smaller than I prefer, but the ability to again use
my favorite filter (Camera Raw) is totally worth it.

Hope this helps someone else.

I had the same problem. Following your instructions now I sort out the issue. But 125% It's to small for me !
