Changes when masking in Camera Raw aren't saving

Starting in Camera Raw (CR) I "open as object" to Photoshop (PS). When opening in PS, I often go back to Camera Raw  (CR) to make a small adjustment. I see the changes made when going back to PS, as I would expect.  However, just today, after going back to CR for brush work on a small area of the face, then opening and seeing correct changes in PS,  when I go back to CR, the previous small area brushwork seems to have been converted to cover the entire face.  I then cancel CR, otherwise the change I didn't make sticks.  I've saved the image, closed everything, updated NVidia Driver, updated windows, Photoshop, Camera Raw, etc. and when I go back to work on this face in the image again, it's the same issue. Very strange. Any clues here?

Day two, no changes. Has to be a bug.

updating Camera Raw about a week ago seems to have resolved this issue. Though the issue hasn't happened since the update, I've also not been doing as much masking as when the problem started.
