P: Import issue RAW images from Sony ZV-1A Vlog

I bought the Sony ZV-1 Vlog (point and shoot) camera and made some (RAW) pictures at home. When I tried to import them into Lightroom Classic, I get an error "Can't open file in Lightroom". I checked if the camera is compatible, Adobe site tells me it should be okay. I downloaded the latest version of Lightroom Classic on my Laptop. I also tried to import RAW pictures from my Sony A6400 and with that I had no issues. Does anyone know what to do? By the way, I have a Macbook Pro 2020.

What version NUMBER of Lightroom Classic are you using? We need the version NUMBER and not words like "latest".

What is the complete EXACT word-for-word error message?

I use the Dutch version of Lightroom Classic, so I'm not sure what the error is in English. But I put in a screenshot, maybe the screen makes sense. Version 14.2 is the one on my laptop.

Upload a .arw file that won't import to Wetransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive or similar free service and post the sharing link here. We can see if the issue occurs on other LR installations and, if so, put it under the microscope to see what's going wrong.

As I suspected, that file's metadata shows the camera model is actually the ZV-1A:

[EXIF] Camera Model Name : ZV-1A

It appears that Sony recently introduced the ZV-1A with very little notice. Here's what I found on their web site:

They recently did the same thing with the Sony RX100 VIIA, catching everyone unawares.

Post a request in this thread for Camera Raw / Lightroom to support the camera:

Support for a new camera from a leading manufacturer typically comes in the LR release following the release of the camera or, less frequently, the second following release. A new version of LR comes out about every 8 weeks, so we might expect to see LR 14.3 the first week of April. (I have no inside information on this, and Adobe never announces such things ahead of time.)

Meanwhile, you can use Sony's software to convert raws to TIFFs and import those into LR.

Because of the new stupid EU regulation for USB C, Sony is not allowed to sell the ZV-1 anymore because of the micro USB charging. So there is the "new" ZV-1A, where the charging with micro USB is dissabled and there is a chargingcase for the battery. Because of the new Modelname Lightroom doesn't support RAW from the "new" Camera.
Same with the A6100 and A6400 they are now A6100A and A6400A but they are already supported by Lightroom since Fabruary.
Hopefully the ZV-1A will be supported soon, the Customer Service of Adobe can't tell right now.

What is the name of the Software from Sony which I need to use? And are TIFF's still the same quality as the RAW's?

The converted TIFFs will be close in quality, though you won't be able to use LR's Denoise, which only works with raws.

Hope usually isn’t needed, only a short wait period. It’s almost certain that a new camera that records raw files, from any major camera company, will be supported soon. It’s rare that a new camera isn’t supported. Although the update schedule isn’t exact, the pattern of several updates a year for new cameras and lenses is very well established.

So it’s not just a matter of the ZV-1A. If someone buys any new camera that records raw, it’s safe to assume that within a few weeks, there will be a Camera Raw update for its raw sensor data. We just don’t know exactly when.
