P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

@andrew_rodney thanks your your kind explanations. They are quite interesting and I don't have the knowledge to understand every notion you're exposing (I still struggle to understand the true meaning of scene-refered, spectral sensitivity or  Luther-Ives), but I appreciate you're trying to explain your view.

Nevertheless it doesn't seems to answer my question, which is : can we get canon's colors with a color checker ? If I understood well, maybe, using a canon jpg as a reference. Right ?

@Etienne_E_Photos I still struggle to understand the true meaning of scene-refered.

Did you read the PDF? It's an entry level, two page piece written by two photographers for other photographers. The one picture kind of sums it up too.

The answer to your question was provided with examples many pages ago by me; editing a profile.

I did, yes, and I appreciated it. Still not very clear, I may need something more precise to truly understand what does those terms means. I'll find things to read, you definitely triggered my interest. This said, I would have liked to have an answer to the only question I'm asking from several messages. Could you please consider it ?

@andrew_rodney thanks, so just to be clear, there's a way to map the profile created by the color checker's program to a preexisting jpg, right ? It means that using this, we can recreate every camera profile (and not only canon if we have the same scene took by another camera) and share them here.

It could sound like a solution to the problem of this topic, I imagine ?

It has nothing to do per se with how the profiles were made (you do not need to use a 24 patch ColorChecker). It has to do with editing a profile to produce a color appearance you subjectively feels matches a JPEG from the actual raw under those conditions.

No, you might not be able to share them; they may utterly fail under conditions that differ from the original.

The camera matching profile is missing in LR Mobile, and should be available for the x100v.

*jbru13 my comment was merged for some reason into this thread, but it was feedback for LR Mobile. The profile is not there in LR Mobile.

Hello, I have a Canon R6 and I'm just wanting to know when you will be updating Lightroom to include a color matching profile for this camera?

Thank you

If you are referring to CAMERA matching profiles such as camera standard, camera portrait, camera landscape, etc., Adobe has indicated that such profiles will not be provided for all models. You have the Adobe profiles, or there are third-party profiles available for purchase if you are interested. Adobe will not indicate when/if such profiles will ever be made available. Future plans are never announced.

I purchased the R5 profiles from Color Fidelity and they're still considerably off.  I've contacted the author providing examples but haven't heard back yet.

Is Canon being uncooperative with Adobe? Do I need to put pressure on Canon to get this done?

*zardoz it's probably because he don't want to match camera colors but have some of its own calibration tool, maybe a color checker.  In my case it's considerably better than Adobe colors. I'm curious, could you share some example ?

I tried CF profile and it's better than adobe but still not very good.
Then I tried a 5DmkIV profile modified to work with R6, and it's much better !!

*zardoz Yes! According to the senior engineer at Adobe, Canon is largely responsible for this due again at unnecessary proprietary raw behaviors. And tell them to stop doing this at every new camera release too. Nikon and others are equally at fault for this silly dance.

Hey guys,

We’ve been using Lightroom and photoshop for over 15 years and loved our experience. But recently having upgraded to the Canon R5 camera our raws images are looking horrible in Lightroom. This is a huge problem that the colour profiles aren’t matching, and having an massive effect on our work and making us question if we can even keep on using Adobe products.
I’d like to know what the plan is going forward, and when/if these colour profiles will ever be released?

From A very worried user.

@Jerry_Syder I think it might be, the main point seems to be lost in translation, but I’ve commented and hopefully Adobe can sort this issue out. Such a joke.
