Camera Raw tools not responding

I have just updated to Camera Raw 12, and suddenly many of the tools simply stopped working.  For instance, when I try to apply a radial filter and adjust the exposure by moving the slider, the little image on the filmstrip changes to reflect the change, but the main image does not change at all.  When I open the image in Photoshop, the changes are there, but I cannot preview them in Camera Raw, which totally screws up everything.  I tried the suggestion of another user, to disable GPU in Camera Raw, but that didn't work (unless I was doing it incorrectly.)  I am on a PC. Please help!  This is driving me nuts!

The Camera Raw Preference tab says I am using Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (25.20.100.6615). I checked my device manager. I have two display adapters -- the Intel (R) one and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070.  I checked for driver updates, and (in both cases) the drivers were up to date.  Should I disable the Intel(R) adapter?

Some users on our feedback forum have reported that they have a product named  Acronis True image on their computres and that  turning off the "Acronis Active Protection service" resolve their slow downs.

https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/camera-raw-lagging-issue-after-update-dng-pic...

You may be running into a different problem, but if you also have Acronis, please try that workaround and let us know if it helps you.

I do not have Acronis True image or any kind of Acronis software on my computer.

Could you please give me some guidance on the question I mentioned above: I have two display adapters -- Intel (R) oneIntel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (25.20.100.6615) and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070.  According to the Camera Raw preference tab, Camera Raw is now using the Intel (R) display adapter.  Should I disable the Intel(R) adapter? Is the problem that I hav two display adapters?  It was never a problem before this latest version of Camera Raw, but maybe the latest version of Camera Raw has now made it a problem.  Please advise.

It's not uncommon for laptops and some other computers to have both an "integrated" Intel GPU and a "discrete" Nvidia or AMD GPU.

We've been trying to collect useful information related to multiple GPUs in this document:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/acr-gpu-faq.html#DoesCameraRawtakeadvantageofmorethanonegraphic...

You should enjoy better performance from Camera Raw's GPU acceleration when it can use your Nvidia GTX 1070, but which GPU is availble is controld by the operating system, not Camera Raw. On most modern Windows laptops I've tested, I've been able to use Windows's power saver and graphics settings to make a discrete GPU available to Camera Raw (or Lightroom) and have not had to resort to disabling the integrated GPU. I suggest you look also for documentation about GPU switching from your OS vendor and your computer's manufacturure.

The instructions suggest that I should try disabling one of my GPUs.

  • If you have to use more than one GPU, make sure that they are the same make and model. Otherwise, crash and other issues can occur.
  • To disable a GPU, use the Device Manager on Windows. Right-click the card's name in the Device Manager and choose Disable.

Should I do that?  Please advise.  If I disable the Intel GPU, can I enable it again, if I need to?

You mentioned using Windows's power saver and graphics settings to make a discrete GPU available to Camera Raw., without resorting to disabling the Intel GPU.  How do I do that?  Please advise.

On Windows, it can be difficult to know what is the latest driver for a GPU, and it is not always easy or obvious how to update. This situation is out of Camera Raw's control.

Please double-check using the manufacturers website:

I checked, and the drivers for both GPUs are up to date.  Should I give up on Camera Raw 12 and try to go back to camera Raw 11.4.1?  Please advise.
