I'm learning Captivate and ran into a problem I can't solve. I wanted to control slide advancement with a click, so I added a button. When I HTML5 preview the project, it shows only part of the page before I hit return (which I coded in as an alternative to clicking). Then it shows the whole slide, but advanced on time to the next slide.
Before click:
After click:
I removed the button and it worked fine (except it advances on time, rather than a click). When I put in a new button, the problem showed up again.
Is there something I need to do when putting in image buttons? I have text buttons elsewhere and they work fine (although I haven't quite figured out the timing elements—more reading and practice for me!)
Is that image coming in with an effect?
If you add any button, by default it will pause the slide, mostly at 1,5sec. If that image has an entrance effect that has a duration longer than 1,5secs, that could explain what you see.

Thanks for the links.
No effects. I wanted to make a graphic later in the deck slide in, but couldn't figure out how to do that. On that slide, there are only the two text boxes and an image on the Master.

Image is used as background of the master slide?

I can't edit my first response, but I realized there was an effect: a wipe slide transition. I removed that and it works. Thanks!

No problem!. Are you aware of the fact that those slide transitions are not supported for HTML output?

No! That's disappointing. I don't even have Flash installed, and would prefer to avoid it.
Thanks for the responses!

You confuse 'Flash' which is still very much alive (most games are created with that app), with Flash player and SWF animations. You are not the only one. Some legacy features of Captivate like slide transitions and text animations are not supported in HTML5.
