Adobe Captivate 5.5 fill-in-the-blank drop down menu problems

I'm having difficulty getting Captivate 5.5 fill-in-the-blank questions to work. I don't want the learner to type in any answers. Rather, I want her to have several options on a drop-down menu, only one of which is correct (e.g., TO or TWO). I made the options and put a checkmark next to the correct one. But then I run into difficulties.

1) If I don't tell it to shuffle my answers, a blank with a little down arrow appears, but the options don't show so you can't pick anything.

2) If I tell it to shuffle my answers, the options show, but whichever one I chose comes out labeled CORRECT.

Could anybody help? Thanks!

Could you show a screenshot of the HUD where you indicated the answers of the dropdown list? One recommendation: the width ot the dropdown list depends on the word you put as first word on the list, so it is best to put the longest word on top. Normally the text 'Select' will appear in the box, and it shouldn't depend on shuffling option.

Lilybiri,

Sure.  See attached.  In this one I'm trying to get folks to capitalize correctly.  "Spinach" is correct.  "spinach" is wrong.  I've never seen the word "select" anywhere.

I made the questions as part of a pool.

Thanks so much.

Dorothy

The screenshot didn't get attached earlier, so here it is.  I was trying to have 2 options, "Spinach" (capitalized) correct and "spinach" (lowercase) incorrect.  I've never seen the word "select" you mentioned.

Thanks,

dorothy

Hello,

We live in different time zones.

FIB is a question type that is a bit limited IMO. One of the limitations is that you cannot check/uncheck case sensitivity (what you need), it is always case insensitive. That is the reason why you always get a Correct feedback caption. This wouldn't have happened with the example To vs Two that you gave in your original question.

Only TEB has the functionality to indicate if the answer is case sensitive or not, but you cannot have a dropdown list there.  And in advanced actions there is no way either to have case sensitivity when checking the value of a variable, you should need Javascript to achieve your goal.

Hi there,

We do have case sensitive option in the Fill in the blank question, when we select 'user input' in Fill in the blank question. We do not have this option in Drop down list, as the here the person who creates the quiz can specify the choices and user has to select from them, so here the person who creates the quiz can user the proper case (Upper or Lower) for the answer and present those choices in any form he wishes to.

Can you please shed some light on the fact that why you need a case sensitive option in the drop down - fill in the blank question.

Thanks for clarifying how Captivate handles fill in the blanks.  I am teaching basic grammar.  I wanted a fill-in-the-blank question specifically to test whether a student knows when to use capital letters.  Many of my students have low spelling and typing skills.  I did not want them to have to type the words.  I just wanted them to recognize whether "Washington" or "washington" is correct, for example.  I don't know Javascript so I will have to do something else.

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, that is what I supposed you wanted to do. But you could use another type of question maybe? Maybe matching, where they can match the correct way of writing with the word correct? Because they'll have drag functionalities then. And it is still a question slide with the possibility to report, to have a score.

Hi,

In that case you can use Multiple choice questions and provide both the options there as an answer.

Thanks
