I see that there have been posts in the past (2 years and 9 years ago) relating to Captivate ending automatically on selection of a button in software during a software simulation.
I am having a similar issue but this is in a piece of software whilst the user is in edit mode. Effectively, the user is creating a fresh record whereby they have to fill in multiple fields over multiple screens.
The capture ends as soon as the user hovers over the first field in the first screen they have to input. There are circa 18 fields to complete, which may have subfields, selection lists etc. to select from.
If I was to persevere with this, I would have at least 18 stop/starts but realistically more, as data such as multiple address fields and phone numbers need to be filled in.
Can someone please advise what is causing Captivate to think it has been told to stop recording and if there is a way around this which is NOT Full Motion Recording.
There are no problems in capturing Look Up functionality i.e. filling in search fields and gaining search results.
Only when creating new fields in the software/database.
Thanks,
I ended up capturing multiple times using the Add button to append the previous recording with the next. Whilst it was certainly time consuming (both capturing and editing out the extra captures due to the stop/start nature), it seemed the only solution.
Not sure what you mean by SAAS as this is bespoke hospital software which does not run in a web browser, but thanks.
I was wondering whether it was anything to do with the fact that when the software stopped capturing, the pop-up window it was in

I'm afraid I can't tell you 'why...' but...
Have you tried:
Starting a capture after the field is selected?
You may need to capture each field in a separate recording, them edit them together.
Saving the HTML file locally, and commenting out the 'hover' part of the script? (or other items that break Cp recording abilities)
You may need to save the HTML and .JS files, and edit them so that the relative paths work. Also, you should consider capturing part of the screen for this segment (avoid showing the url), or capture in 'Presentation Mode' for your browser.
Capturing this segment with a different browser?
Again, you'll need to edit the segments, but you may be able to get the behavior to go away for this form.
You say it is a 'piece of software' and I've assumed it's SAAS with a browser interface, if it's an EXE, you may need to use a different screen recorder for certain segments, and use Cp to publish the course.
In any event, these issues should be shown to your Project Manager ASAP, as there will be delays. If you're not working solo on this project, each team could be delayed until an approach or resolution is found.

I was wondering whether it was anything to do with the fact that when the software stopped capturing, the pop-up window it was in was not visible in the ALT-TAB window switcher keyboard shortcut, but disproved this by taking another piece of software we support, that I know doesn't show in ALT-TAB when it's in record edit/creation mode but that worked, which kiboshed that theory.
I think it is just that Captivate and the software I am using are just incompatible, which is a shame as it is a major piece of software that the hospital uses and therefore means more work for me
Ho hum. Cheers for replying though. Much appreciated that you tried.

SAAS would be 'software as a service,' like YouTube, Vimeo, even Google's apps that run in a browser.
You got me with 'bespoke,' as I would call it 'Third-Party Software,' not developed by the hardware manufacturer nor the OS developer.
Do you happen to know what platform, ie Windows DOT Net, JAVA, or others, the custom hospital software was used for development.
(It might help to capture that in the forums, and/or search for other mentions of conflicts with Captivate or other screen recorders.)
